Replaced two old openers with two 8500w by Liftmaster
Hugh in Texas✓ Verified Purchase•September 2, 2023
I purchased two 8500W openers for two 18ft garage doors. The installation for the first opener took 2hrs...2nd opener 1hr. So, I would say the install desires a 5 star rating. Instructions were well written. Pre-planning a must! Wall unit must mount to stud. I had to add a board behind unit to attach to stud the attach the wall unit to the board. The power cord is 6ft. Instructions say no extension...no power bar. So, get power plug installed within 6ft from opener. I watched some youtubes on the install and noted several tips that were very useful. I was shocked by the quietness of the unit. So quiet opening/shutting the doors! My only issue was WiFi connection and the MyQ app on my iPhone. The instructions for WiFi access and mobile device (MyQ app) really suck! Still not working yet, but I'll get through it eventually. I was not impressed with the cable tension sensor and it's installation...but there is work arounds for that on youtube.
BUY THIS OPENER! WORTH IT

If you are thinking about replacing your opener with a side-mount - DO IT! Its the best opener I've ever owned, very very quite, door goes up quickly, the side mount saves SO MUCH space. 10/10 recommend
Excellent.

I purchased two of these unit to put on large heavy doors, A 14X8 and a 12X14. These openers are super quite and very smooth. I would buy again.
Wish we had bought this one to begin with!

My first attempt was with the Genie and I was none too thrilled with it. Glitchy machine and made an annoying hum constantly. Installed the LM and have been very happy with it right out of the gate. The Genie app made me wait when I pressed the open button, saying "open requested.." The LM app starts opening the door immediately, and just seems like a better laid out app overall. The Genie has a wicked shudder when it first starts moving which is something to do with cable tension. The LM uses a simple plastic runner/switch to monitor the cable and is really not that difficult to install properly.
My experience has been that the Liftmaster is clearly superior to the Genie offering and I'm very glad we eventually wound up with this model.
