I am using one of these to switch a 1500 watt heater on and off. My wife was always plugging and unplugging the heater every day and ruining the receptacle in the wall. The contacts inside the receptacle would eventually get burnt. I added this switch to avoid ruining the receptacle. Now, I simply replace this switch about once every couple of years after the switch gets ruined. In the end, it is less expensive to replace this switch once in a while than replacing the receptacle in the wall. Operating a 1500 watt heater with this switch shortens its life significantly.
