I like the style of the lamp aesthetically appealing but the round model is better overall. I use it in my office and have to place something underneath so it is higher (I stand at my desk) would probably be better if you are sitting. The round model is larger and seems to emit more light. I can say that using theses lamps is beneficial for SAD related issues. I don't like to go out in the elements to get my daily dose of sunshine especially during the winter months in the northeast which precludes outdoor sun exposure. The round model's circumference (7") is bigger than this models 2 3/4" width of light emitting surface by 8 1/4" height. If you are going for a more edgy design I would recommend this model, if you are looking for something a little more sleek with more light I would recommend the round model.

I have issues with sleep as a major night owl so I often miss out on morning sunshine and could use a light box. I tried one before from Costco but this one is brighter, looks nicer, is taller (which I like), has a 3 yr warranty, and costs $50 less. I've use it daily for one week now and it already seems to be helping. My energy and mood feel higher and I've been going to bed earlier at night. I first used it too long (one hour) and felt nauseous with a headache for hours, but I found 30 minutes works great. The manual said to use 8-24" away from eyes so I keep it about 20" on the highest setting. I use it without contacts or glasses with my eyes looking up at my tablet first thing after I wake to (hopefully) reset my screwed up circadian rhythm.

This stuff is awesome! It's my first review ever in Amazon. I agree that is a little expensive for what it looks like turned off (plastic) but totally worth it for its function. I bought it because I have always had the worst time waking up. I'm always drowsy and moody. I put the lamp on my night stand facing the wall so the light just bounces back and doesn't hurt my eyes. I turned it on at 6am eastern time during daylight savings which is still dark and it woke me up in 5 seconds and made me feel happy, so I grabbed my phone to order another one for the office but I feel so awake and happy right now that I had to write a review and give it 5 stars. It is plastic but is not ugly, and it works! I can stop buying stuff to help me feel energized to wake up, I even feel like exercising.
