Great little APs!
Chris Wedig✓ Verified PurchaseSeptember 4, 2023
These access points are pretty great. I have 4 of the installed in my home (one on each floor, one in detached garage). The reason I went with these is because of the ezMaster management software, and having the ability to manage all APs together.

After some trial and error (support is mediocre), I got all APs set up with multiple SSIDs on both 2.4/5 spectra, as well as a guest network with captive portal. It's nice to be able to separate different SSIDs into different VLANs. I'm running the ezMaster on a little cube pc running Windows 10 ($99).

Now that my config is finalized, the whole system has been stable and we get perfect WiFi throughout house, backyard, garage, etc. I have several WiFi security cameras streaming over WiFi, and these can handle the constant traffic and still deliver 100+Mbps I get from my cable provider.

The PoE is great - I have them wired to a central PoE switch and can reboot them via this switch by cycling power on the port.

Also a great value - other APs are much more expensive for the same feature set. What makes these so valuable is definitely the management software - ezMaster.

I have been using Engenius, for about 12 years now. The company makes extremely solid and staple equipment. However you need to know what you are doing. if you are looking for plug and play, this is probably not your device. If you have some networking experience, that is more then PNP, you know how to configure Point to Point, can mange 3 layers on a network. This this company is your best bet for almost anything. I have used there equipment for point to point on buildings 2 miles away from each other, I have used this particular product for a 16,000 ft2 gaming facility. my experience is once you get it dialed in that is it! there is no down time unless someone messes with it. it is a high quality product. That I use. Tech support is limited to business hours, because its a commercial product. Do i use them at my house? YES. Would i recommend it to someone that is the standard user, yes as long as a IT guy is installing it and setting it up for you. if your one of those people that do not have networking experience. Still buy it and call a friend or spend the 75$ to have a IT guy dial it in for you. Unless your one of those people that dont mind unpluging and repluging in equipment every month. then go to BB or NE and get a off the shelf AP.
Almost a 5-star AP
Mike W✓ Verified PurchaseJuly 24, 2023
For the money the EAP1250 is a great Access Point. Almost a 5-star AP, I give it 4-stars because of a few minor issues. The setup instructions are minimal, firmware updates are manual. Overall, I am very pleased with its performance and would buy again.

Some tips/suggestions for setup.
1) Use the built-in web interface. While this can be accomplished by connecting the EAP1250 directly to the PCs ethernet port, my PCs are ultra books and do not have and an ethernet adapter (also I would rather just connect to the router and be done with it). First connect the AP to the router. After connecting the AP to the router, logon to your routers setup menu and find the local ip address assigned by DHCP to the EAP1250 device. Under attached devices this will show up as EAP1250 with the AP MAC address. Optional, to prevent having to do this step again, under the router's LAN setup menu, reserve a local ip address for the AP and restart the router. I set my routers local ip address to 10.0.0.2, so whenever I want to enter the EAP1250 setup menu I just enter 10.0.0.2 in the web browser.

2) The wireless AP default is open (no password). So, change the wireless security settings to WPA2/PSK AES. Note that saving changes do not commit them. After saving any changes, then go to the "Changes" button at the top of the screen to commit them. Otherwise the changes will be lost.

3) My internet is provisioned for 250up/250down. Using the default AP settings, speed tests on the 5GHz band would get about 140 Mbps up and down. I changed the Channel HT Mode to 80MHz, now speed tests get about 270 Mbps up and down.

4) It wasn't obvious to me, but the Reset button is where you go to reboot the device. There is an Auto Reboot Setting under Wi-Fi Scheduler. I set my AP to reboot once a week.

My biggest complaint is the Firmware Upgrade process. This is completely manual. You must find the firmware update (if any) and then download the file before it can be installed.
Solid radio, but typical of EnGenius buggy software.
Mark P.✓ Verified PurchaseJune 20, 2023
EnGenius has always had die-hard radios in all of their products. This one does have buggy software. Once you get the settings where you want them, it will perform solidly 24/7. Great value.
