Unbalanced inputs likely to cause annoying hum

The RCA input is not grounded, rather the shield connection has a 20k resistor in the ground path therefore making the likelihood of a hum-inducing "ground loop" very likely when using the RCA input! Most amps that offer balanced and unbalanced inputs have a switch for selecting input, the XLi series don't incorporate an input switch. You'll need a "cheater" plug in order to prevent ground loops if you use the RCA unbalanced inputs. Took me a while and some multimeter measurements to figure this out. But ... with that solved I use the XLi800 to drive two JBL 1500SUB subwoofers mounted in JBL B380 enclosures and they sound great with powerful, clean, wall-rattling low bass (with appropriate crossovers of course). Great for movies or music.
