These are wider than you would expect. Unless they framed your doors on purpose with exceptional gaps, you'll be forcing the door pretty hard to get it to close. Considering I've replaced thousands of doors in my career, I'm not sure why these would be designed so wide. My mother in law came over and had to slam the door a few times to my discomfort and I said "yes, I know, child locks, deal with it". For installation, its an absolute breeze for me. For my wife, she attempted to install it with my drill, (She has experience installing child locks on all of our kitchen cabinets) and she stripped screws and cursed out loud the entire experience, I had to take over and make sure it was carefully aligned based on where the biggest gap in the door and frame was. They work extremely well, but, if the manufacturer could shave off even an 1/8th of an inch to the width of the tongue that slides between the door and the frame, this would be perfect.

Amazingly simple to use product for added protection to your exterior doors. I would also recommend getting longer screws that are hardened also. One quick tip for ease of use, would be to a little coconut oil to the locks friction points, to make engaging and disengaging the lock much easier. It will not affect the use of the lock only it's smoothness to fling open or closing it.
