I bought the Dingsun digital to analog converter to be able to use my 2003 Sony Home Theater Digital amplifier system that had HDMI, but didn't have optical audio. It once work with my old 2004 Plasma, using HDMI, until it stopped working after 10 years. Bought a 55 inch Samsung Smart TV with optical audio output. The Dingsun digital to analog audio converter device allows me to use the external speaker setting on my TV with my Sony system. The sound is amazing, surround sound from my TV. I didn't have to junk my Sony to hear quality sound from my TV.
Con: The remote is somewhat tricky to work. Haven't use the coaxial connection yet, don't know if it will work.

For the money it can't be beat! Everything works "as advertised". Sound quality is excellent! The volume control was a "must have" for me, and it does work; however, the "precision" between volume "steps" is greater than 1db, so it's almost impossible to set the volume to a desired level; it is invariably too loud or not loud enough. This can be compensated with the amplifier to which it's connected, but that's a pain when the amp has all manual controls. (If your amp has a remote - mine does not; circa 1979 -, then this is a minor issue.) That said, it works well and provides a VERY cost-effective link to my vintage audio gear. Definitely worth the money!
Good way to add volume control, but volume steps not perfect

Bought this to add volume control to a tube amp. Optical from TV to this, then RCA to tube amp. Works as intended but a few issues.
One - lights are always on. I fixed with some electrical tape but this device has to be visible to use the remote which is annoying there are multiple LED lights that are always on.
Other small issue is the volume adjustments are pretty drastic. Going from volume all the way off to one click makes it significantly louder - not crazy but annoying if I want to use a low volume to not bother anyone else.
Overall it works, just know it's not perfect.

Because of my open floor plan house, we use small and larger speakers wired to the audio output of the TV. Issue was the TV doesn't control the volume output of the audio. The amplified speakers i use have volume control, but getting up to adjust them is a pain.
So I found this great product.
Here is what I found.
I used the TV digital output, to the units digital input. Not the audio output i was using to operate my speakers. Also it has a single RCA input jack, but Im not sure if it accepts mono audio.
I wired a two jack splitter to the 3.5 MM stereo output. They went to my two speakers. I use one speaker at a time, but i did try it operating the two at one time. No issues.
Sound quality from the speakers was excellent. Better than the TV audio output, i was using,
The remote worked well. Volume, mute, on, off, select input.
Turning off or muting and then turning on the volume maintained the previous setting.
The only thing that could be an issue for some is the level of the audio output. It's no where near the level of the TV audio level. Not an issue for me as i am using it with amplified speakers. I just adjust them to be at the maximum volume i want.
For me it's just what i was looking for.
