After a year in operation, the opener is going strong. Chickens are safe and I don't have to get up early or remember to lock them in at night.
Wish I had splurged sooner

I was put off getting this automatic door because of the price for years. After all, you can achieve the same or similar results for a lot less money using common off the shelf materials. Then, the self made wooden sliding door I built a few years ago got a warp and no matter what I did it would break the string or the bracket the motor was on or it wouldn't close. I was using an off the shelf timer and had to reset the open/ close time periodically through the year as the dusk times changed. The open times of the door I left at mid-morning so the chickens would lay their eggs inside the coop.
After couple seasons of fighting with my old homemade door system, I began searching for another solution and came across the ChickenGuard door. Put off by what I considered too much to pay for an automatic chicken door, I continued to research other options and products, but I kept coming back to the ChickenGuard. After some ruminating I decided to splurge and went to the Extreme version.
This door is smaller than the one I was using, so I had to reframe the opening, but this was easy because of the problems with old door, I had started using wood screws and easily removable frame pieces because of all the times I had to repair and replace some thing on the old door opening system. The door is plenty big enough for chickens, but a full grown turkey cannot get through. But that is only a problem when we have turkeys, which is only about every other year for butchering. They are raised in the brooding section of the coop, which has its own door and is not automated since it is only used in the spring of the year.
Programming the timer was a breeze. I set the open time to mid-morning and to close at dusk using the light sensor. No more having to remember to set the timer back or forward as the days get longer and shorter.
The door is thicker that I thought it was going to be. Just as thick, or thicker, from what I had been using in the past. I live in the northern part of the U.S. and am worried about the self-locking door in the winter, but we have had two blizzards so far this year and no problems. Still waiting for an ice storm to see how it fairs.
In the three or so months it has been running, I noticed the timer lost 4 minutes. This maybe a battery issue since we have 2 month of below freezing temperatures, we'll see.
Over all, I am very pleased this system. In hind sight, I wish I would have splurged sooner and avoided some the aggravations I experienced with my homemade set-up I had.
Well worth the money, easy to install and use

The media could not be loaded. I've been researching automatic coop doors for over a year. I decided on the Premium because of the autonomic locking feature and options. You can set it for light, timer or both. The actual LED box is sealed well with the included seal kit, easy to read and program. The light blinks every 30 seconds when closed and can be seen from 100 yards away so you know the door is closed without going out to the coop. You need to leave about an 1/8 of an inch space on each side of the door so it easily slides during operation, I would suggest using a level as I did to make sure you install it straight so the door doesn't bind. The door when closed was a few inches smaller than my original pop door but that was easily fixed but putting a 2x4 on the inside and cutting a piece to fit the outside and screwing them together. It was pretty easy to install but having another person to hold the door guides would have made it even easier. It's made of tough plastic and aluminum. It's lightweight but very sturdy and once it's all the way down nothing is getting in your coop. Make sure when setting it up, you let the little pin that the string is attached to go all the way down so the locking pins engage before hitting the stop button. The directions where easy to follow and set up was simple. I used 24 hour/military time to set mine so I didn't confuse am and pm. I have mine open at a set time in the morning to keep the girls in to lay and at night I used a combination of light sensor and set time incase it's overcast since mine is inside my run. I plan on purchasing another one for the run door to the pasture once I redo my run. It's a great piece of mind that my girls are secure for the night and I don't have to get up early to let them out anymore. The light will blink when the batteries need replaced and it stores your setting so you don't have to reprogram. You can get a power cord to plug in but the batteries last well over six months. I got the Premium because our winter temperatures get below zero but there is an Extreme model for even more harsh weather. These might seem expensive but you get what you pay for and I would recommend this setup for anyone who wants to keep their flock safe at night. I have coyotes, bobcats, foxes, raccoons, possums and weasels and none of them can get through this door.
Outstanding customer support

Bought this over 2 years ago. Have loved the product. Had an issue a few months back with the door due to technical issue and was disappointed to discover the door was not covered under the warrenty but they did offer a discount on a replacement. Then just recently the automatic door would not work. It just stopped opening. It would let me manually open and walk through the steps but come morning "”nothing. I thought maybe cheap batteries so I changed them-nothing. I was worried it was the mechanism but it let me push the button and open it close so obviously it worked. Finally called the company today and the lady was so patient and within literal minutes solved the problem and walked me through solving it! I needed to actually recalibrate the door not just reset and reprogram. Somehow I was missing that step when I added new batteries and going through the set up! Now the door is working good as new and saved me $200!

Thank you for your time and patience today.
Works Well, Clock is a Bit Slow
KStewart✓ Verified PurchaseMay 7, 2023
Works as expected. I have had this door for about 8 months now. The clock is a little slow, so I have my door set to specific times for opening and closing (8:30 am open and 7:30 pm close) and I do have to go out each month and set the clock to the correct time again.

This works in cold weather! We've had many nights in the single digits here in SW Michigan and no issues with the door being stuck open or failing. We also had a storm where winds got the temp down to -20 and no issues with this door!

I did have one incident where the door was stuck open, but it wasn't weather related. Make sure you install the track wide enough so the door doesn't get stuck halfway.

In the summer, I set this to open at sunrise and close at sunset. My coop and run are completely predator-proofed, so I'm not worried about birds being caught outside as much in the summer. I have had two instances where a bird didn't get inside before the door closed, but the birds are young and learning.

Definitely a good buy.
