The safe is the perfect home safe. Size and quality are perfect

Ok so all these reviews about not being able to open it, here's the trick: Put in your code, WAIT a full second, THEN turn the handle. It takes a second for the mechanized internal lock to unlock, if you don't wait, it WILL be impossible to open as for you interrupted the process. So even if the light is green, wait 1 second, then turn. Works every time. I did at first lock it and then unlock with code to hit the same problem when I first tried.

This safe will NOT open without waiting that full 1 second. Which is fine because it keeps people out who might have / guess the code that you don't want.

Anyway I've had a similar safe from the same company for almost 20 years. Never failed, always opened and closed properly. Had to buy this one for a new house and I have to say it's about the same build quality. These other "fire and water proof" safes that are cheap, would never actually be water proof. There are clear gaps around most of those cheap ones.

This safe has a gasket around the door which is water tight and smoke tight. This safe also has very thick fire insulated walls and door. The other cheap ones are just 1/4" steel and nothing else. I have seen one of these dropped and broken in Home Depot, there is a thick concrete like material that is inside them (hence the heaviness compared to others) and that's the fireproof material. It keeps the heat inside the safe relatively low. Thick of it like a cooler box, you want thick insulated walls to keep out the heat and keep in the cold. This is the same.

This and most other decent fire/waterproof safes are not really designed to keep out a knowledgeable thief. More to just protect from the smash and grab people. Unless you spend over $1,000 you're not going to find a good "thief proof" safe.

It's good for basic home use and to keep things like passport, guns, and other important documents you don't want burning up in a fire or destroyed in a flood or after the fire department soaks your place from burning.

There could be a bit better design of the door, I do notice that my 20 year old safe of same company seems to be better built quality wise, but that's what happens. New things just aren't built like they used to be.

Overall so far I give it 4 out of 5, I'll update if I run into any issues.

Appears very durable. I like the fact that you can replace the batteries without having to open the door the last safe I would have to open the door with the keys. I don't like that your only backup to open the door is to call the company to get the factory code

This is a well made safe. It's not nearly as heavy as it looks. The size is just right for my mother in law to put her jewelry when she's away. It hold a good bit and easily fits on top of her jewelry armoire in her closet.

This is a nice safe for your valuables. Be aware that there are no provisions to bolt to floor.
