Reasonably priced Tester
William L. Drewel Jr.✓ Verified PurchaseSeptember 11, 2023
I purchased this after doing some research on it I got the w Model(with 8 test remote ends).
For the price I definately can not complain. I normally use Fluke at my employer.
I find the device is durable (I dropped it 2 times on site it did not have a mark on it).
I am an ogre. I have to push down on the buttons to get it to start up a little more than some other devices(However still acceptable) Battery life for the tests I did was good.
POE tester is a nice inclusion and it does work. Ping test works IF YOU HAVE THE DEVICE CONFIGURED PROPERLY FOR THE NETWORK SEGMENT YOU ARE ON. I like the auto configure feature however if you have an issue with vlan/port agreement or you are in the wrong network segment it may not work(configuration matters with this tester.)
Link is not displayed unless you are in an active test. The device is definately a functional tester. I took a star of because I feel they should be able to put all the features in one RJ 45 for the network tests and such. The RJ 11 I did not use however I have a great appreciation for the feature being added. So many times I have seen people who did not know the cables they had and it is nice to have that built into this tester.
Overall I do not regret this purchase and I am happy with it. I wish it had a Vlan test option built in. I would also be greatly appreciative of a replaceable battery option. I would recommend this to a tech on a budget.
Time saver, cost saver

The only real problem I have had is remembering which of the 3 RJ45 ports I should be using for a given task.

The TDR is accurate within inches on mine, as long as the cable is more than 20"

I have had no problems with the unit pulling DHCP address from our Cisco switches. And the ping feature has been invaluable.

If you are troubleshooting 1 or 2 drops a day, this unit may save you a lot of money.

It has quirks, and may not be a good choice for heavy duty use, but it is everything I needed.
Very useful tool

Overall, this tool has been extremely helpful. Being able to not just test cables but diagnose specific crosses breaks or shorts, test PoE, run ping, even measure length, plus more, is wonderful.

My only criticism is that the receiver for the tone generator is unreliable, and I will probably go back to carrying a dedicated tool for that purpose. Not enough to detract even half a star.
Works alright in a pinch

I know you probably are looking at this thing and saying how...is...this...so...cheap. Good question. I picked one up because I broke my fluke and didn't really want to spend another G on replacing it. Although I have really just used this for simple cable certification and wire chasing, I have had some frustration with accuracy , like "man I know I put that end on right, why is it failing" Then I go ahead and carefully put another end on and get *another* fail. Then I'm like *finger on my chin emoji*" wait a minute, I definitely didn't do it wrong again... knowing how careful we are the second time around...right especially if you have an audience? You can usually run it a couple times and get a pass. Anyway long story short its actually pretty decent, if you don't want to shell out for the Fluke. It also has a fox/hound feature, it is not very accurate, but you can narrow it down to a couple wires at least. Happy shopping hope this helps ya!
Saved me several times

I'm no pro installer and when I volunteered to help run cable for a local non-profit (Maker Nexus) I was advised to get a cable tester. Wow, am I glad I did! After crimping on new connectors I use this to verify the integrity of the cable. After a day of pulling cable I used the distance function to tell us how much cable was left in the box. We needed to find out where one existing cable run went and the buzz out function helped.

The user interface is a bit odd, but I got used to it. The buzz detector was a bit hard to find a specific cable in a bundle until we stripped the end and went for bare copper for the detection.

Overall a super product that I am pleased to own.
