Comfortable, not soft but not too firm
Carol N.✓ Verified Purchase•October 30, 2023
Shipment arrived sooner than expected. I find it very comfortable. It's neither too soft (which gives me back problems) nor too hard. Just the correct level of firmness for me. While I've only slept on it one night, I don't expect the level of comfort to change. One reviewer mentioned it's easier to get out of the package with two but one can manager. I found that to be true. I managed to unbox it and get it onto my bed without a great deal of difficulty, even though I'm almost 80 and not very strong. The way I did it was to open both ends of the box, then maneuver the box onto my bed with the mattress inside. I was able to then alternate pushing one end and and pulling the other and it slid out fairly easily, since it's encased in plastic. After that it wasn't very difficult to remove the plastic and position is correctly on the bed. Overall I'm very happy with the product and appreciate the packaging that I didn't need safe cracking tools to get into.
One of the best mattresses I’ve purchased

Bought a 6" twin.
it's Med-Firm feel, very supportive.
I'm a stomach sleeper"¦ mattress feels good on side and back aswell.
No back pain/pinching with this mattress.
Well worth the cash.
Tuft & Needle, 5 stars in my book.

First off, the mattress is relatively firm. Getting in you feel that you are sinking in and that the mattress is very soft. After a moment the springs and foam respond and the mattress becomes relatively firm. I sleep mostly on stomach and side. It's perfect for the stomach, perhaps a bit too firm for the side. Feels good and supportive on my back but I don't sleep that way. Doesn't sleep hot like a different hybrid mattress I tried. I've been sleeping well.
There is little if any padding around the sides so that you can feel the springs. The edges of the mattress offer no support. I wonder if with time the springs might move out of position (there is little to constrain them) and eventually causing problems.

A Pleasant Surprise

I bought this mattress to replace yet another air mattress that I have used for years as a replacement for a waterbed mattress. The air mattresses have been okay, the last one I had was a very expensive three chamber model, but it finally met its end (not a leak). I had seen commercials for the "mattress in a box" offerings, so I was curious if they came in a California King size.
Some searching on Amazon lead me to Tuft & Needle. They offered very attractive prices as opposed to others I had seen advertised on television. They also carried a California King in an 8" thickness, that was perfect for my existing frame. So after reading both positive and negative reviews, I took the plunge and ordered.
It arrived quickly, and in a box that was smaller than I expected. Unrolling and removal of the plastic protection covers was simple enough for me, but I would suggest two people do it for ease. I did it myself, so it can be done, but two people would make short work of the job and endure far less of a struggle.
I experienced no strong chemical aroma that I had read about in some reviews. After a couple of hours I tested it out. The instructions said it was okay to use after two or three hours. My initial response was that of pleasant surprise. It was very comfortable and filled the bed frame exactly as I had hoped. It also allowed me to use my normal bed rails once again as the new mattress did not stick up above the rails. After I got the bedding on, the whole bed appeared much lower to the ground than it did before. That was really because the old air mattress was a good 12" and it had a 4" memory foam topper on top of it. Making it actually taller. This was not a problem.
My first night of sleep on the mattress was blissful. So comfortable, dare I add, "soothing"? At first, I was sort of afraid I would sink, the foam compress, and feel the wood underneath. That did not happen. It also does not sleep hot, which was another worry. Yes, like all mattresses, you leave a warm spot, but the mattress dissipates the body heat and allows me a wonderfully comfortable night of rest. All subsequent sleeps have been just as comfortable and pleasurable. I honestly could not be happier with the experience I have had with my Tuft & Needle mattress.
The cost was a lot less than I expected to pay for a mattress in a box. I had hesitation that I would get cheaper quality, but that fear was proved wrong. I have received nothing but great sleep and the feeling of a well made purchase.
I can only imagine that the thicker versions would be just as, if not more comfortable, but I am completely satisfied with the one I purchased. In my reading, I believe that the "model" I chose is an exclusive to Amazon.
They do offer a satisfaction guarantee, but since my satisfaction was met and exceeded, I will not be using it.
If you are considering purchasing this mattress, do so with confidence. If for some reason you are not satisfied, use their guarantee. I believe that you will be just as satisfied as I am with this mattress. I would suggest not judging it until it has fully expanded (A couple of days), though I knew I had made the right choice the first night I spent on it.
Thank you Tuft & Needle!

Softer than I expected but super comfortable

My son was ready to upgrade to a big boy bed and this was one of the best mattresses I could find in a price point that was comfortable based on other reviews. It is really nice, super comfortable, and quite soft. My son sleeps great on it. My only complaint, if I had to voice one, would be that the edges could stand to be more firm. If you get too close to the side it's really easy to slide/fall right off the bed (lucky for us, it's a low frame). It's more an issue when he asks me to lay with him and it's even become a game of him pushing me off the bed and "rescuing" me. I didn't know what to expect from a bed in a box but it has certainly impressed me overall.
