Real Life Mario Kart
GenXer✓ Verified Purchase•July 4, 2023
This product is as fun as it claims to be. I bought one for each of my boys and a go kart pro for myself. It is solidly built, and it literally takes about 30 minutes to put together. The three modes on the Go Kart and 4 modes on the Go Kart Pro are great for limiting the speed when the kids are learning how to drive it. It is awkward to get in and out of (even for kids) because it is so low and how you position your legs. The gas and brake pedals are very responsive. It stops very quickly. Basically, it's like having a real-life Mario Kart and it takes turns with ease at high speeds. 15 mph may not sound like much but this is not like a car. You are completely out in the open and it seems much faster. Battery life is very good for the kids. It isn't bad for me at all but obviously the heavier you are the less time the battery will last. It is also dependent on how you drive and how often you accelerate quickly.
The PRO is definitely not for little kids or even 10 year-olds. It goes too fast and accelerates much more quickly. However, it is a blast for adults.
The Go Kart comes off the Segway S (and S Max with the PRO) with a simple flip of two Velcro straps plus disconnecting the wire. It collapses easily to fit in most standard trunks. I can get all three in the back seat of a crossover SUV with the seats down.
Some advice before you buy this. You should also have somewhere safe to ride these. Going on neighborhood roads is not safe because these are so low to the ground that cars can't see you unless you are directly in front of them at a distance. If you have a neighborhood where people park on the side of the road frequently during the day then it is definitely not safe at all. This is technically a "hover-kit" so your neighborhood shouldn't have an issue with kids driving it on the sidewalks or walkways.

Fun, but Expensive once you add the Segway Ninebot

So we own three Segway Ninebot GoKarts. We found them on sale last year and bought one for each member of the family. I am happy that we did, we love them.... but there are some big caveats. if you are not careful the Segway Ninebot will turn into a nightmare. It is fun, but there are some massive design failures that you need to be aware of.
Things to as soon as you buy it
- I can not emphasize this enough - buy and additional plug adapter that connects the ninebot hoverbard to the gokart. It comes with one, but it is way to short. This forces you to bend the power wires 90 degrees every time you want to charge. This is a failure waiting to happen. The additional plug adapter will allow you to easily charge the hoverboard without having to bend the wires. You can buy the adapter for like $10
- Make sure that you update all of the software PRIOR to try to attach the hoverboard to the GoKart. Update the GoKart and the app.
- Make sure you use the app to put the ninebot hoverboard into Gokart mode
- Make sure that you can get the knee (or handlebar) off the Ninebot... prior to even buying the GoKart. I had the extended attached to my hoverboard and it was IMPOSSIBLE to remove. Seriously, it was impossible. I even purchased a set of heavy-duty gear pullers, but I still couldn't remove the handlebar. The kneepad that comes with the Segway Ninebot S and Minipro can be frustrating, but with the special tool included it can be done.
Notes on operation
- it is super - it is basically your own personal Mario Kart. There are three modes for speed and in sport mode it will go about 15mph. While driving around outside we usually keep it in sport mode.
- Battery life - it isn't bad but the riders weight and terrain will greatly impact the range of the GoKart. I am a little north of 200lbs and I can get about 6miles in sport mode. My wife and daughter can get closer to 8 miles.
- Keep an eye on the temperature of the hoverboard. Once it gets above, about 105f, it will occasionally start to slow down, especially on inclines.
- Speaking of inclines... the Segway will go up moderate inclines, but I would recommend against steep hills. It really puts unnecessary stress on the motor.
- There is zero suspension so you will want to avoid any potholes or major bumps in the road. It seems like a lost opportunity because with a basic suspension it would have added a lot to the overall enjoyment.
- the build quality is only so-so.... the steering assembly is not very rigid... and the mechanism they use for sliding the seat in position is bazaar and ineffective. These types of issues are real head-scratchers (especially for the price).
- Charging is pretty fast. The battery goes from completely dead to completely charged in about 2 hours.
One of the observation
- I have NO IDEA why this thing is so expensive. It doesn't have a motor.... minimum lights... no suspension...and only a basic steel structure. I think it should cost a fraction of the retail price. It's odd... if it was priced at a more reasonable price point I am sure they would sell more GoKarts and Segway Ninebot S.
Final verdict - We love our Segway GoKarts... but I really have to question the price and some of the design decisions... once you get past that it really is a ton of fun!

Looks cool hanging on the wall
StraightUp Reviews✓ Verified Purchase•June 17, 2023
I bought this for my 8 year old son for Christmas with a Segway, but unfortunately the "car part" of the order didn't arrive until 3 days after. After riding the Segway nonstop for three days we transformed it into the GoKart which takes about 10 minutes if you know what you are doing. After 1 day of being a GoKart he asked me to take it apart so he could ride the Segway, which once again takes about 10 min. Since then the "car part" has been hanging on the wall in my garage while my son continues to ride the Segway part at least 5 days a week.
For us it is unrealistic to convert it between a Segway and a GoKart very often due to the effort involved. If we had a 2nd Segway that alleviated the need to covert it each time I'm sure it would get a lot more use, but we don't.
That said, my buddy has 4 of these in his hanger that are constantly being used by middle age men and the occasional kid.
As far as quality and durability are concerned, this thing is military grade. I'm not kidding.

Fun! Read instructions and set up carefully.

Most important: Similar to a previous review, the Kart started to move forward as soon as we turned on the power. Be very careful in setting it up in an open space and be ready to grab the kart (back of the kart has metal bars for you to grab onto) if it starts to take off after the power turns on.
Also important: You need a miniPro segway for this... otherwise, you'll end up with this kart without back wheels.
Purchase: I waited for the price for this to drop before purchasing... the price finally dropped by $160 so I took the plunge.
Set-up for this was very easy and straight-forward. Follow the instructions step-by-step in terms of getting your segway ready and connecting the kart to the segway. As stated before, make sure you have a good handle of the kart before powering on for the first time, because our kart took off similar to a previous review. Good thing I knew already so I had my hand on the metal bar in the back of the kart to hold it. You'll need to set up the app and connect as gokart mode.
Riding on this kart is loads of fun. There are 3 options for speed / level, so start slow in the beginning before you move to the sport mode, which goes quite quickly. The ground clearance is not bad but I would be careful in driving in non-smooth surfaces. The turning radius is not the best, surprising for such a small kart. It is very responsive and since you're close to the ground, the feel of it is awesome and fast.

I am so glad I brought this from amazon

I brought this as a Christmas gift for my 13 year old son. He wasn't able to use it on Christmas Day as the Segway ninebot s I brought for it didn't work. We got one from best buy and that seemed to do the trick.
When we unboxed and assembled it the first day. It ran fine, no problems. Easy to connect to Bluetooth. However, 2nd day of riding is when problems started.
The go kart kept randomly stopping in the middle of neighborhood crosswalks and sidewalks with my son on it. It will just basically come to a complete stop for 15-30 seconds before going again. This concerned me as someone can easily run him over. And it also braked dangerously going high speed. Luckily, my son wears his seatbelt so he never got hurt!
3rd day nothing happened since he couldn't ride it because of a storm.
On the 4th day, it broke. His friend tried to fix it but broke the charging port for the cart.
I contacted amazon customer support, and they said they will send us a new one for free and it will arrive the next week.
The new kart was a day late, but so far, it has been running perfectly fine. Hasn't slammed on it's brakes for no reason at all the 1 week we had it.
They also redesigned the charging port so it won't break as easily.
I am wondering if the first one was an older one with a variety of problems. I am not rating this 5 stars as there are definitely better choices out there, but I decided to keep it at 4 stars for amazon's customer support
