We wanted a dvr for camper. This got better reviews than what Dish offered. It works great with our Wally set up.

Wanted more storage space for the Dish Hopper 3. Originally, Dish was only able to be used with a 2 TB external hard drive, so I bought this model, which works fine:). Upon calling Dish for help with the setup, since the USB 3 port on the Hopper didn't work, (only the USB 2 port works for such), the agent said they had recently upgraded the Hoppers to accept 7TB of external storage, which was a plus, since "more is better":). Upon further reading, 7 TB drives aren't available yet! Maybe Dish will upgrade their Hopper 3 again, to store 8 TB or more in the future. Unfortunately, neither Fantom, Western Digital, nor Seagate knew if their 6 TB external drives would work with the Hopper, so in essence, I needed to be the "tester". Thus far, I've tested the WD, which works fine, expecting the Fantom drive to work, as well.

Soooo glad I ordered this H/D. Had an appointment with Dish to replace my hopper 2000 with one that had sling and get the super joey also. Old hopper was 21% full took me 3 days to transfer the recordings at my leisure of course was in no hurry. When I first hooked it up according to the directions provided it did not show up or recognized by the hopper unit,used the e sata cable that was provided. I then unplugged it from surge protector then the power switch on back of unit disconnected the e says then used the USB cable plugged it back in flipped the power switch within 5 sec it was recognized and the hopper was ready to re format it. Just as easy to transfer recordings back to new hopper. Very chuffed with this little unit which btw seems to be built like a sh-- brick house a little heavy and nice aluminum outer case.

Wanted to max out my DVR capacity, added this to Hopper 3 that already had one larger external drive. Using this to only back up my favorite shows in case Hopper and other drives crash after years of use, Hopper slow to pickup and set up drive but worked eventually. Update: locks up on occasion but suspect crummy Hopper software because other drive from different supplier also locks up regularly requiring frequent reboots of hopper, don't expect flawless performance with Dish products

Bought to use on Dish with hopper and Joeys. Works great. Had bought different hard drive offered by Dish on line. The dish hard drive failed after 13 months. The fandom appears to be much better quality and faster. It is a Seagate. The one Dish sells was a western. This one is also cheaper than one sold by dish. Can buy service to retrieve data if drive fails. Consider this, when my Dish hard drive failed I lost all movies on disk. Plug and play works great. Comes with own power supply so if U check Dish requirements for external hard Drive this qualifies. Comes with USB 3. works with USB 2.
