I tried two different bags - this one wins hands down!

This bag is better than I anticipated. I am very glad that I purchased it! Carrying the yoga mat vertically is much more comfortable for me than carrying it horizontally at my lower back; it doesn't bounce, and it actually doesn't even feel like I'm carrying a yoga mat at all. I am able to pack a yoga block, a yoga strap, and a mat towel on the inside with a little extra room to spare for a change of clothes (I might be able to fit a pair of shoes if I didn't wear a size 12). On days I am going to the gym and don't need my yoga mat, that space is perfect for my shoes to fit without a problem. I'm both cases, a decent sized water bottle (the original blender bottle, I think its 20 or 24 oz) fits just fine; I love the mesh pockets on either side for it. The front pocket and ultimately the other mesh pocket are where I put my phone and keys.

I did try a different backpack-style carrying bag that carried my yoga mat horizontally, and personally, I did not like that as much. This bag offers all the room the other one did with the added bonus of vertical storage of the mat. No regrets eith this purchase, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking!!
Almost exactly what I need

I love the colors. I'm not sure it's exactly what I need. It does carry a lot in the backpack but only if your mat isn't strapped in. With my extra long, Manduka Pro..I can carry my laptop and maybe one book and my wallet. When I need to see private yoga clients for therapy, I still need a 2nd bag to carry blocks, straps, etc. If I'm just teaching a class and don't need much, it's great. Carries my mat, planner, wallet and water.
The pocket for the mat is adjustable but there's a stupid elastic strap that is useless. It's super hard to get a mat in and almost impossible to get out. It's not necessary though bc there's a better (adjustable) strap with connectors at the top. Way better.
The outside is nice and feels durable but the inside has a thin, nylon lining. It feels flimsy. Time will tell how well it holds up to me cramming books in and out of the backpack.
This is a better design for proper body mechanics than the ones where the mat is carried horizontally.
The mat strap

I like the bag it has plenty of space. The only flaw is the lower strap to hold the mat would be better if it had a clasp, like the top strap. You have to do work to get the strap around the mat and push it lower into the bag. Kind of annoying.
The bag of my dreams!

I can't say enough about this bag! My husband got this for me as a Christmas gift as I was constantly schlepping at least 3 bags in and out of work each day and wished for something like this, not knowing it existed. I was using a typical long, over the shoulder yoga mat bag in addition to my laptop bag, purse, lunch box and sometimes portable breast pump (sorry guys) - I felt like a pack mule and it was wearing on my shoulders. This bag is absolutely perfect - it fits my lap top, at least one change of clothes, my yoga mat, water bottle, and umbrella - and the shoulder straps are very comfortable! I was nervous that my mat may hit me in the head while walking, but it's not even close and when getting in a crowded elevator it's not awkward. 'Not wanting to drag another bag to work' is no longer an excuse not to practice. I have also gotten so many compliments from my teammates on how useful and cool it is. And honestly you can't beat the price point, considering some other brands are charging more than twice as much for something not nearly as functional!

I love this bag!!
Nice with some design flaws

When I first got this backpack, I was impressed by its comfort and capaciousness, as well as its capacity to hold a yoga mat. Unfortunately, a couple weeks of use have revealed a couple of design flaws in the unique selling point: being able to carry a yoga mat. First of all, a typical mat is only held by its lower half, anchored at the bottom by an elastic band and close to the middle by an adjustable strap. The elastic band has a tendency to slip off, leaving the bottom of the mat loose and prone to slipping, while the middle band only has a single anchor point, meaning that it wiggles a bunch. One single change would massively improve the stability of the yoga mat, which would be to have the upper strap anchored in two places rather than one. As it is, my mat has a tendency to fall either to the left or right, so that it's prone to smacking passers-by.

Overall, I would give this product 3.5 stars, but I'm willing to round up because it's relatively cheap and comfortable, and I haven't been able to find any other products that combine backpack functionality with vertical mat transport. Hopefully version 2 will address the mat anchoring issues.
