Great value for the money, perfect for small projects
maksim l✓ Verified Purchase•August 16, 2023
Good packaging and easy assembly, assembly instructions in the manual are easy to follow, assembly took me may be 2-3 hours, no additional tools required. The only two small issues I had were: 1. I had to force y axis lead screw through the nut as the thread was not cut to the end 2. There are no instructions on polarity of the spindle, so I had to figure out what will be correct connection to make it spin in the direction that I needed. On positive side quality greatly increased compared with earlier models (based on YouTube reviews). There is absolutely no play in spindle assembly.
I didn't really expect much when I ordered the machine, but it turned out perfect for the small project I had. I was able to cut 0.75 oak board in to the design I needed.
I really love that you can run your jobs off SD card in the remote. Now I do not have to bring my laptop in to garage, I don't have to make sure it will not suspend, or crash, or loose connection. Just copy NC program on to the disk and run.
Creating programs is not easy and requires going through bunch of YouTube videos, often containing outdated information, so you need to be a sort of person that doesn't afraid to experiment and tinker with things, there is no easy button here, but I was able to get from 0 to designing my parts and figuring out how to cut them on the machine in 3 days, and while I am computer literate, I am not CAD/CAM engineer, all I had some previous experience with small laser cutter.

There customer service is unrivaled! 10stars if I could.

I am new to the cnc world and this 3018 pro is my first cnc machine.
When I got it everything seemed ok until I tried cutting a very thin aluminum (0.8mm). It carved for a little while then goes out.
At first I was a bit hesitant to reach out to the customer service, because I've never had good support from these sellers on here. So I did the next best thing which was to ask a question in the public question section on the item with hopes that someone more experienced would help me out. The seller replied to my question and left their email, so I reached out them and they troubleshot the entire machine with me over email in a very reasonable time given China's time difference. The service rep Zhan and Jennier were both very helpful in checking on the progress of the troubleshooting and when we figured out that a part needed to be replaced, they sent it to me via UPS and I got it within 3 days. Zhan would send me tracking updates for everyday it was out. They are Great People.
Now I am cutting wood and aluminum easily with no problem.
I would most definitely recommend this product from this seller, because we all know that not every product that leaves the manufacturer is a 100%, but when it comes with a support team like this one did, there is nothing to worry about.

Great (cheap) way to start into CNC

I'll start off with "watch the videos on youtube!" They are a great help and will answer most of your questions. One thing I had an issue with was I could not zero the axis's using the GRBLControl software. I'm using an old laptop still running Win7 home premium. The zero buttons would always be greyed out. I found that it's the software, not the laptop or machine. I switched to GRBLCandle, works like a champ. I'm also going to try Universal GCode sender and see which I like best. This is a fun toy to learn and play on, and I'm sure it can make some nice projects as well.
One word of warning, DO NOT expect too much out of this, it's not going to mill aluminum, maybe scratch it at best. I have a 2,000lb knee mill to do metal, a 10lb toy in not up to the task. I actually bought this to learn what I need to know so I can convert my knee mill to CNC.

Very easy DIY CNC and the best customer support experience in last few years

This is one of the best buying and customer support experiences for me in last couple of years.
I ordered 3018 PRO late afternoon one day and i arrived around 2 PM next day.
It took me 1-2 hours to assemble and next 1 hour to do just a little CNCing (wood) to test basic functionality.
While assembling, i noticed that i got few bolts less than needed, but i used every other "hole" and it was safe, and i was gonna buy what's missing soon.
I emailed to this email, from their Amazon support page ([email protected]) asking for dimensions of bolts and nuts just to make sure that i am ordering right things, and i emailed photo of "places at CNC" where bolts were missing. Someone replied withing few hours apologizing and promised to mail me a bag of bolts, as soon as possible.
A bag with complete set of bolts for new 3018 PRO came 3 days later. That was just very nice treat.
This is very good CNC for beginners (I am CNC beginner). I recommend having experience with assembling products or DIY kits. Even if this is your first DIY project, which I doubt, since CNC doesn't seem to be something that you are buying unless you are making things, and if you are or were, you already put together at least one DIY.
I have moderate experience with DIY 3D printer and electronics, so this was not difficult to assemble and put it to work
My intention is to cut PCBs for prototyping small electronic projects and eventually buy a laser head and do some engraving and paper engineering.
For PCBs, I am learning to use FlatCAM, Candle and grblControl.
I am also researching about using laser instead of spindle and I emailed, again, [email protected] asking advice and opinion about types of lasers and asked questions about paper laser-cutting without leaving burn marks.
Again, I got reply withing few hours answering, to their best knowledge, all my questions and even more.
If you are thinking of buying desktop size CNC to see if you like this type of "making things", i cannot say nothing but good things for both 3018 PRO and especially customer support experience from seller.

Good parts, a few bad design choices
Alex✓ Verified Purchase•June 25, 2023
I am glad I bought it; zero regrets. This is the first basic CNC mill I played with. I got a great set of parts that were easy to assemble into a working system and I learned a lot. Now that I have disassembled it (see below) I can reuse parts for other robotics projects. On the "pros" side, it works to make very shallow cuts in wood (probably engrave aluminum, too; I did not try it). Anything else is very imprecise, occasionally random.
Steppers and spindle are strong enough to allow for good milling of wood and probably for a (slow) milling of aluminum. Rods are accurate. Frame is OK (I would add two strips for extra rigidity of attaching X/Z assembly, but it is OK as is). But couplers for stepper motors and spinner attachment are really bad. This should be easy and cheap to fix, and could turn this unit into a much more capable CNC.
Couplers for attaching stepper motors to positioning rods move if there is any resistance, that is when milling more than a hair deep. This should be trivial to fix; there are many ways of good attachment for two metal items together that cost pennies. The spindle attachment is even worse -- spindle goes into a wobbly plastic ring. Any lateral force moves spindle assembly around and the bit off vertical, killing precision. Same as with couplers -- OK when engraving, but deeper milling is inaccurate. It would be more expensive ($20-$50 maybe?) to add a rigid spindle attachment but would allow real milling, not just engraving.
Bottom line: at least 4 stars, and many good parts. But could be much more capable.
