I initially ordered a rainbow-colored jump rope with the plastic tubes, as I recalled they were easier to jump with during my own child hood (weight, gravity). But, my 8 year old asked me to instead get her one that was just rope because the plastic hurts her when she doesn't get enough lift and momentum when she's jumping.
