Vantrue S1 4K Dash Cam Front and Rear, 1080P Dual GPS Dash Camera with 24 Hours Parking Mode, Enhanced Night Vision, Motion Detection, Capacitor, Single Front 60FPS, G-Sensor, Support 256GB Max

Key features
- •【Low Light Level Night Vision & HDR】Equipped with advanced Sony sensor and F1.47 wide aperture which helps gather more light and eliminates the need for auxiliary light source even in a low-light environment. The dual lens dash cam can capture important details like license plates and street signs even in the evenings. The superior HDR technology will automatically adjusts the camera exposure so you get the clearest picture even in less than perfect lighting conditions.
- •【Dual 1080P FHD Discreet Dash Cam 】The dash cam has a compact and contoured design that attaches in front of the rear-view mirror seamlessly which makes it less obvious to the driver and passerbys that the camera is recording. The combination of the Advanced Novatek NT96663 Chip, Sony sensor with both front and rear cameras that simultaneously record front (170°) and rear (160°) video at FHD 1920x1080P 30fps, monitors in all directions without a visual blind zone when compared to other dashcams.
- •【Supercapacitor & Parking Mode】 The dash cam uses a supercapacitor which can withstand extreme temperatures from -4 to 158°F, that prevents the risk of overheating, extends the life span and reliability of the camera. With the parking mode feature, dash camera will automatically record when the car camera detects motion in front of the vehicle and triggers action to activate recording. Please hard wire it (Asin:B07V3F1VFX) or connect it with an external battery during the parking mode.
- •【Built-in GPS & Time Lapse】Featuring a built-in GPS module, which allows you to check the car's exact route, speed(KM/H or MP/H) and location via the GPS Viewer. With Time Lapse function, the dash cam will keep taking photos at the set time interval and then auto edit them together to a video clip once time lapse enabled, thus reducing the size of the video file. The dash cam support rear camera Image Flip Switch function that convenient for you to view rear camera video on the pc and car camera.
- •【Loop Recording & G-sensor】Seamless Loop Recording overwrites the oldest footage with the newest upon filling a card to capacity. While once the car impacted while driving or in parking mode, the G-sensor will automatically lock the footage to "Event File" to prevent it from being overwritten. We recommend to use Samsung Pro Endurance card. Your camera comes with a full 18 months Warranty.

S1 versus the T2 - similar but different
W. wright✓ Verified Purchase•March 2, 2024
The media could not be loaded. Both dash cams have excellent resolution. Both have a parking mode that I use. The S1 parking mode is only on/off, the T2 you can adjust the sensitivity to near/mid/far.
Things I don't like about the T2:
- it is big with the GPS mount. You can see it mounted on the right side of the mirror in the picture.
- the buttons are on the bottom of the unit where you can't see them.
- the screen is small.
- it takes 2 hands to disconnect the camera from the mount if you want to take it inside.
- the instruction manual is a poor translation. There are typos and camera features are not explained.
- although its supposed to overwrite after filling the sd card, it will frequently not do that and just stop recording new video. The manual says to format the card every 1-2 weeks which is a pain, but that is what I have to do to keep it recording. A new sd card may solve that problem, but I haven't tried one yet. You also need to use sd cards rated for dash cams in order to get any longevity out of them (usually called high endurance cards).
What I like about the new S1 are:
- two cameras, although I haven't used the rear camera yet, just the front facing.
- it mounts up higher out of the way and is easy to remove from the mount. You just slide the camera up about 1/2" and it comes off the mount.
- GPS is built in, unlike the T2 where its part of the suction mount.
- both the S1 and the T2 use capacitors instead of batteries and are supposedly more heat resistant. I did get a sd card fault with the S1 which I attributed to high heat, but it has only happened once so it could be something else. I'm using a Vantrue 256 gb sd card and have not filled it up yet.
- the buttons are on the front of the camera where you can actually see them while driving. Very important to me.
- the S1 has the option for 1080-60fps when only the front camera is used. 60 frames per second vs 30 frames per second means more detail.
Things I don't like about the S1:
- the manual is still poorly written with typos and incomplete descriptions. For example, it tells you how to turn HDR on and off, but doesn't tell you what HDR is. Same with EV exposure correction (what is it for?). Same with setting the Hertz (when do you use 50hz vs 60hz?).
- the physical buttons are labeled "" but are used to move the cursor up and down.
- the screen is hard to see because of the angle. It would be nice if the screen tilted. What I end up doing is slipping the camera out of the mount when I want to change settings. Granted, I'm in my 50's with bifocals, so you may not have trouble with that. Depends on your windshield angle, too.
Overall, I prefer the S1 to the T2 because of the size, mounting and features. Both are high quality cameras and get good reviews in other publications. I like having capacitors instead of batteries. I like having the parking mode. I like having the ability to use high capacity sd cards (most dash cams cannot use 256 gb cards). And so far they have held up well (the T2 for over 2 years and from Washington to Arizona).
EDIT: the actual video I uploaded to this review is much better than what is shown online as far as clarity and resolution. Amazon, like other sites, probably compresses the file which drastically lowers the quality.

Great product and great customer service

I've had this camera for two years, and I've been very happy. It was important to me to have SD storage and to not have to interact with an app. This camera has been solid through extreme temps, and playback has always been spot on. When I sold my car recently, I forgot about taking down the 3M mounts. I reached out to Vantrue customer service on their website because I did not see replacement mounts available to purchase. They provided me with two replacement mounts free of chaege. Their customer service was wonderful. I will definitely choose a vantrue when I'm ready for my next camera.
Reliable event recording and playback. Great Night Vision. Use Screen protector on windscreen.

WHAT I LIKE:
RELIABLE: My biggest issue with a previous camera from some other brand had been that I could never be confident if it will record the event that matter, such as an accident, someone keying my car and what not. I have been testing the VANTRUE camera over the past week and it seems pretty darn reliable.
EVENTS: To create G-SENSOR (shock sensor) based events, I smacked the camera. This mimics a crash let's say, but my goal was to ensure that it recorded BEFORE and AFTER the event and as expected it does. No skips, frame drops or any blackouts (I recorded a stop watch to measure frame drops),
NIGHT VISION: I am not sure what to compare its night vision capability against, however I can report that I have had no trouble making out number plates, pedestrians and other features out in the world even when the only source of light is my car's headlight. The camera does a great job with the HDR/dynamic range. Sufficient to capture the details of any event, even when it pretty dark.
WHAT I DON'T LIKE:
- I am not a big fan of the big cables coming out the side of the camera. It makes the thing look a bit ugly IMHO. I really wish instead of the big fat USB connectors the camera used a more elegant cable and connector mechanism.
- This isn't against this camera, but I wish VANTRUE would come out with a version with a wireless rear camera module. I decided not to install the rear module (and instead purchased another camera that is just rear facing) because I do not wish to run a cable through my car's cabin. Too much work and again looks ugly.
TIPS:
- Use a HIGH QUALITY SD card. I cannot stress this enough. Stream from two cameras require enough bandwidth that if you skimp on your SDCard, the camera cannot perform at its best and you will get corrupted stream and dropped frames. I recommend a Samsung EVO Plus.
- Screen protector on windscreen. Yes, you read that right. Instead if sticking the VHB (the 3M adhesive) which is really strong (that's why its called VHB = Very High Bond), take a cheap screen protector they make for phones, cut it in half and stick that to where the VHB adhesive from the dashcam goes. In other words, the screen protector goes on your windscreen, is about 4x5 inches or so, onto which you stick the dashcam adhesive. It will hold without any issues and when its time to remove, you can just remove the screen protector leaving your windscreen like new.

Amazing product and amazing service with a few caveats

After getting rear-ended and realizing that my Yi dash cam (while perfect for me at the time) did nothing for me when rear ended. I ordered the Vantrue camera while my car was in the shop... and it was in the shop for over THREE MONTHS!
When I received the Vantrue camera, I tested it and set it and all was good to go. I even had the shop run the rear camera wire for me. As soon as I got my car back from the shop, I set up the camera with no problems and no glitches.... EXCEPT when I was installing the rear camera, I put a little too much pressure on the cable while in the USB input port and damaged the input port. I was not much pressure so I feel Vantrue can improve on that (I took the rear camera apart and found that the port was properly soldiered BUT very weak with very little mechanical support).
I looked to see if I could just buy another rear camera, but could not find one. I contacted the seller to see if I could buy a rear camera and they immediately and with out hesitation sent me a new one but warned that it would take two weeks to receive.
Two weeks later, here it is fresh from China along with a replacement cord!
Now that is amazing customer service from any company at any level.
Pros:
Great product
Great customer service
Easily configured and manual is clear and concise.
Night vision is good (but not GREAT)
If you use just the front camera the 4K resolution is good.
Cons:
Weak USB input ports
Camera cannot record at full 4k resolution with rear camera installed (I knew this going in but it is still a sore point with me).
Parking mode can drain your batteries so a second battery is recommended.
Over all a great product and amazing customer service! for the price, you will not be disappointed.

Pros:
- Simple installation
- 4k front video quality
- easy setup
- price (bought it on sale)
Cons:
- Needs more features for user interaction
- Followed recommended mount setup and extracting microsd can be a challenge for some cars
Bought this abt 3 weeks ago. Installed a week later on my wife's car since there are a lot incidents at her payed garage or during travel where and when she works. Had an accident today at the work garage while parked and she took pictures with her phone which gave her 90% chance that it's not her fault but other driving was shifting the blame on her. Extracted the 4K video from dashcam and was clear that it was the other drivers fault. Nothing better than seeing proof positive of other driver's fault in HD!
