The new version (left) has a CR2032 (~235 mAh) battery, while the original (right) has a A23 (~55 mAh) battery (not shown). All the components on the new model are modern and should be more energy efficient than the original. Unfortunately, I do not have a working original version (though I see nothing obviously wrong with it), so I can not compare the range of the two remotes. I can say that the new remote is sufficient for opening the door when I am maybe 150' up the street. IIRC, the original model may have had a better range, well past when I was able to see the garage door. I am not sure that is exactly a bonus.

Just so others know, I have an older Genie opener. My old remote was a Type 2 which is a bit difficult to find. This remote worked perfect. Took literally 15 seconds to program and worked first time. Price is more than reasonable and free prime shipping. Couldn't ask for anything more.
