No More Flies - What Took Me So Long
E. A. Jacques✓ Verified Purchase•October 12, 2023
I purchased this screen to use on my garage which has been converted into a gym. The last few years the flies have been brutal. Especially in August and September when my Walnut trees drop their fruit and it starts to rot on the ground. Fly traps helped, but they filled up in just a few days and stank real bad so not the best solution. I had thought about making some screened panels this year and was looking for the screen and came across this item, and others, designed specifically for garage doors. Who would have thunk it. My garage is now a fly free zone and I could not be more pleased with this product.
It took me about a half hour to install and that was including adding an additional strip of 1x3 wood at the top. After reading some of the other reviews regarding the installation I decided to add the additional wood to make it easier to create a high point where the panels meet to ensure is closes with minimal assist - which it does. Plus the existing wood had worn a bit over the years and did not make a good matting surface for the Velcro tape to stick. Like others I chose to install the tape to the wood frame before attaching the screen to it since it just seemed to make more sense. I also added a few staples here and there to make sure the Velcro will stay put. In my application it will only come down once a year in the winter months when flies are not an issue, but I still felt it best to secure it with some staples and recommend doing that if you plan to install this screen and remove it on occasion. Although I will admit the Velcro is very sticky and comes with a small tool to press it in place too. I would still recommend some staples though.
It ended up fitting almost perfectly. It was about and inch too wide which was easy to compensate for and about two inches to tall, but that seems to work out well. It allowed me to use a brick on each end to hold it down and prevent it from pulling at the sides when being opened. On that note you just push through it to open and it pretty much closes behind you. If not you just need to give it a little push and it closes like a zipper. I was really impressed with how easily it does open and close. The magnets appear plenty strong holding it securely even when it's windy, and leaves no open gaps for bugs to enter. Yes it does tend to cling to the door but only a little since it's just the metal framing inside the door that attracts the magnets - not the door itself, which in my case is aluminum. I don't use a garage door opener so can't speak to how it would handle being opened remotely.
The fiberglass screening material itself appears very durable while remaining flexible. I opted to go with this model, which was priced a little higher than others, based on the review comments regarding the durability of the screen fabric as well as the trim fabric that houses the magnets on the edge and weights at the bottom. It does drag on the cement a little so over time it might wear in spots, but nothing a little black duct tape won't be able to handle. Obviously air circulation is a concern in a gym and it does not seem to hamper that much at all. One added benefit is it makes it a little harder to see into the garage from the outside which I like and it even provides some level of shading which is good as my door faces West so it can tend to get pretty warm late in the day.
Overall I am very pleased with this product. I wish I had thought about this years ago. It is so nice to be able to use the garage without flies or mosquitoes or any flying critters for that matter. I even use it at night to meditate in peace and quiet. I cannot recommend this product enough. Stop thinking about it and make the move. Hands down.....some the best money I've spent this year.
Update - April 23, 2023
I thought I would provide and update since I have used the screen for two years now. Unfortunately I am here to purchase another one since the original one is worn pretty bad and a bit dry rotted. I am still happy with the purchase and feel even though it lasted only two summers, it was still a good value. My garage faces west so the screen got 8-10 hours of sun a day. Plus it got opened and closed a lot in the course of a day.
To be fair I probably could have gotten another year out of it, but it was not that expensive so I prefer to have a new one. Plus the bottom was getting pretty warn. As I said it gets open and closed a lot and the weights at the bottom cause it to drag on the concrete which wears out the fabric. I was finding the weights in my driveway and did not know what they were. I ended up having to replace them with some old AA batteries and taping it shut with duct tape.
I can see how someone might read this and think these issues should lower the rating, but to me it was still a good value and well worth getting another of the same model so I can just install it to the existing framing and Velcro which is still in good shape.

Very great but!

Was super easy to put up. The sizing was a bit off for what I need BUT overall I'd by this for every place I stay if I could. Proved really useful in the summer when I wanted to spend time in my garage. Great airflow. Could use more adhesive, however.

The adhesion comes loose from house, However I love it and will but it again
If this even lasts just 2 years its well worth $30-40 bucks no question.

Takes maybe 30 minutes if you want it up there perfect. Use the thick velcro for the top (like 2 inches wide) and the narrow one for the sides. Then stick the screen to it. Looks good, easy peesey. If it lasts longer than a year i wont lower from 5 stars. If it dies in 366 days ill buy another. It says take down when not in use, i guess if you planned to leave for a few weeks or more it might be worth taking it down so it doesnt sit in the sun for no reason but im never taking it down now that ive got it up, level and even so if it can take the florida sun for a year or two before death ill be happy.
Made a new room for under $300!

The media could not be loaded. Decided to make a screened in porch using the garage door screens. Had to return a few & order different sizes. Did a little modification to make it all work. We just love it like a new room. Great quality except the the Velcro that you put on the wood posts. They just don't stick very well. Cleaned the surfaces just like the instructions asked. Put the thumb tacks top bottom & middle still came lose. End up stapling to the wood now I'll have rusted staple in the winter. The manufacturer offered to send out new Velcro in the pamphlet sent an email but nothing. All in all pretty pleased with the product got to figure out something on the Velcro.
