After long searching, and seeing positive reviews, I purchased this radio. The first one was DOA, so I requested a replacement, and sent the first one back. It arrived two days later, to my surprise. This one worked, unlike the first one which had no sound. After searching the AM/FM bands of the second radio, it does quite well on FM reception with antennae fully extended. The AM band, however, was quite disappointing, as it proved no better than much smaller, compact radios which I own, and was the main reason I wanted this. I like to listen to talk radio, and this is no better than small compact radio reception on AM. This radio requires 4 standard D cell batteries which adds quite a bit of heft to the radio. D cells do last longer than smaller size, so I guess there are pros and cons, but I would have prefered 4 AA size, to cut down on weight and size. AC power cord is included, to save on battery use,.The best feature of radio is the tone control, which is useful, especially on AM band, as it reduces static somewhat. Overall, radio is Ok, but better bang for the buck is the Panasonic RF-2400D, which I also purchased on Amazon.
