The Most Gentle Way To Keep My Scared Dog Safe
Andrew S. Reed✓ Verified Purchase•September 10, 2023
It broke my heart the first time I fitted my dog for a muzzle. She's a sweet girl but new people scare her and I don't want her growls to turn into anything worse. I opted for this LePark muzzle because it still allowed her to drink and it's less of a head cage and more of a restraint. Until I can either convince her that new people are good friends waiting to happen or I get her properly trained this is the happy medium between locking her in her crate and just gambling she won't bite when people are over.
She's not the happiest dog in the world when it goes on, but she seems to accept it and understand. At first she tried to scratch it off and because I ordered a size too large she was successful, but after getting a size where she was in the middle of the range instead of the beginning of it it fit snug enough she couldn't get it off. It's a firm fit, but not tight enough that the discomfort is a problem.
In my house the muzzle is a necessary evil until we can get our sweet girl to a better place with her fear of new people. I couldn't find another muzzle option that was more humane and comfortable, it's really important to me she be able to stay hydrated and have limited use of her mouth since it's such a big part of how she interacts with the world. When she's wearing it she can still nuzzle up to me and comfortably rest her head on my lap. LePark has helped me enormously in making the best of a bad situation.

So I did all the measurements said needed and I ordered a 3XL for my 85lb bully/pit mix. I received it a day late on a saturday but it wasn't their fault -was USPS-. I Love the look and make of the muzzle (def strong), its not threatening at all ,looks and works much like a gentle leader/halti with more support. As for the actual fit, the strap around his snout was just a bit too big even at its smallest but the head strap was good so I could work with that. The only part that worried me was the actual straps connecting the snout strap to the neck strap; they fit a little too big/doesn't quite fit right so if he were to paw at it,it would easily come off. I emailed the seller and they were GREAT about it! They offered to send me the next 2 sizes down to try (in return for this review :P ). They sent me a XL & 2XL, that was a saturday late night, I received it on Mon. Still Loved the look but the reason why I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 5 is because all the jaw straps were still a little too big/didn't quite fit. The XL fit the best by far, maybe a large would be better? My boy has a short snout and fat head so I don't totally blame them, I'm fine with working with it. The only other thing that bothers me is if I have the leash connected to it and he pulls really hard for more than a few seconds (for example when he sees another dog), the adjustable strap comes out ):. I still have control over his head but now he can bite if they get too close...which defeats the purpose. I've put a pin on it for now and its fine.

UPDATE: (Feb 2019) after several months of using this consistently, it has held up very well. Fenrir is now used to it and we can keep it on for about 30-40 mins without him trying to remove it. And hes associated it with being quiet (we usually only use it when he comes across someone that really bothers him and he wont stop barking) so when he sees it, he shuts up. Lol
Straps occasionally need readjustment but nothing major. All straps and hardware are still in great condition. Highly recommend!

I have a ~85lb 3 year old German Shepherd who occasionally barks at random people who he doesnt like. I wanted something that would put people at ease if I choose to take him out but nothing super crazy like a cage muzzle. *I* know he will not bite people, but strangers don't. That being said, I read through a lot of the reviews and noticed many were having issues with the muzzle staying on the dog or getting their dog to keep it on. You need to work with the dog and train a dog who has never had a muzzle to be ok with this new, strange thing being on their face. My dog, Fenrir, hated it at first but after a couple weeks of putting it on in longer increments and taking it off before he gets uncomfortable with it, giving treats and doing basic commands like "come", "sit" and "stay", hes getting more and more comfortable with it. The muzzle is not too tight to where he cannot get it off. He can get it off rather easily, if given the chance, but the point is to train him to be comfortable enough to ignore it being there and leave it on. You can't just put on a muzzle and expect a dog to understand or want it to stay there.
The quality of the muzzle is good. Nylon straps, plastic buckles, metal D-ring for attaching a leash and a padded nose guard. It has withstood the few times Fenrir has pawed at it, without breaking or coming undone and it seems to be comfortable enough for him to keep on for an extended period of time, once he becomes accustomed to it. :)

Meat mouth Shar Pei can be tricky to muzzle..

I want to mention that the customer service is amazing, they responded very quickly and sent out a new muzzle right away when I asked to exchange for the correct size.
The only reason I give 4 stars is because the simple slide type (not click type) buckle on the nose part of the muzzle works itself loose, a lot. It's difficult enough to manage the excess skin in and around the muzzle, the slide type buckle always pushes loose and it's a pain to tether back into place. This dog is infamous for getting out of anything, his nickname when he was a baby was Houdini. I know in time he'll figure out that slidey buckle and he'll slip it on his own.
This would probably work flawlessly on "normal" dogs to be fair, but it's a pain to constantly check and re-tighten on meat mouths.
However I am using this as training tool for excessive barking, hopefully he won't need it long anyway.
