1. Take car out of garage
2. Get ladder and open back of garage door opener where the light is by pressing on sides
3. Press "Learn" button on back of garage door opener 'briefly'. Light will turn on.
4. Press button on remote control briefly and the opener will flash and the garage door will operate.
5. Close the light cover and put the ladder away.

Could have given it a full 5 stars but the printed directions included were all but useless. The best bet is to go to the online website for the brand opener you have. I tried using the printed instructions multiple times with no results. After finding the online instructions for the brand opener I have the hardest part was setting up a ladder to press the program button on the unit. Working great in less than 5 minutes.

I was shipped 2 remotes. Tried to program. 1 worked, 1 did not. I was shipped 2 more remotes. Neither worked at first. I randomly seemed to figure out the programming! In garage, I pushed and HELD 2 buttons on remote until the red light stayed condstantly on. I then pushed the largest remote button a few times. The light blinked, then after a few pushes, the opener worked. The red light stayed on- I pushed one of the other buttons and the red light turned off. I now can push the largest button and the opener works every time! I hope this helps someone else!! Todd
