I've had heaters for my Betta tanks in the past they do not have the indicator lights. I like this one better because I can see that it is heating and I know when the heater itself believes it's reached proper temperature because of the indicator. This way, I can check the thermometer and make sure it's actually working as planned.

I got this to pre-heat water for water changes. I have a 4 gallon bucket where I pre-treat the water (dechlorinate and off-gas with an air stone). I wasn't sure this heater was working at all, except the light did come on. After 4 hours, the water hadn't budged from 65 degrees. I didn't even feel any heat when I directly grabbed the cylinder of the heater. Considered returning it at that point. After another 4 hours, the device did feel warm, and the water came up to about 72, which is good enough. So: 8 hours to heat 4 gallons to 72. Kind of weak, but it'll do.

This kept my 2.5gal tank around 79 - 80, which is just a tad warmer then I'd like. Worried about my Christmas Moss, 78 is already a bit too hot for it. Really wishing there was a way to adjust it about now, but obviously that's not part of the functionality. Suction and size are perfect. Didn't try the temperature reading, and bought my own I trusted more.

This is a nice basic heater with it's own built in thermometer.
It senses when the water gets too cold and automatically turns on till it reaches right the temperature.
You can tell if it's on if the light is red and off if the light is green.
It suctions nicely to the glass and it's not too big for my 2.5 gallon tank.
