We used the Wisdom Essentials test kit on our rescue puppy. As per the instructions, you need to roll the little bristle against their gums twice for several turns, and it actually went much better than I thought it would with our active and excitable 4 month old puppy. My husband held her, and I was able to get the samples. We got one, waited until a little later, and did the second one.
Communication with Wisdom Panel has seamless. Easy to mail in the samples, they gave updates via email, and our results were in early.
We had a fun breed "reveal" of the results with our young adult kids. :) We got some breeds we expected and several surprises!
I didn't upload our puppy's picture before the results were available, and the physical traits they said were likely for her (coloring, markings, furnishings, size, type of fur, etc"¦) based on her genetics, line up with her very well on all counts they list.
We really enjoyed this, and were super excited to learn more about our pup!! ðŸ¾ðŸ©·

I bought this test to use on a dog that I recently adopted from the shelter. The shelter had him listed as a "wirehair griffon." Boy were they wrong! =0) Dutch is actually 56% various types of Bulldog, 10% poodle, 15% chihuahua and a bunch of other stuff. Never, and I mean, never did I think that would be the results we received back. but hey -- it is what it is.
As for the process...it was all very simple. Once I placed the order - the test arrived within a couple of days. Collecting the sample was super easy. The test included 2 brushes, that kind of look like a bottle brush or mascara wand, that you twirl around in the dogs mouth. Since they are bristled - the sample attached to the brush easily. The main thing is to not let you buddy eat or drink for about a 1/2 hour prior to collecting the sample.
once you have the sample - you simply put it back in the provided packet and drop it in the mail. Once it was picked up by USPS - I started getting updates. It took maybe 3 weeks to get the report back? The web site was simple to navigate and easy to read. Depending on how much you want to spend - the testing can provide all sorts of information. I went with the basic package ( right around 90.00, I think). This package told me Dutch's breed, some basic medical conditions he may be predisposed to have, and list some "relatives" that matched some of his dna. Overall it was worth the money...and the laughs.

I bought a maltichi 2 1/2 years ago and I never saw the father. I saw the mother who was a Maltese but I never saw The Chihuahua father, so I wanted to make sure that my sweet little pearl was in fact a maltichi. The test was super easy to do. You just put a swab in their cheek. I will warn you, though that the swab is like a mascara wand and it's rough and pearl didn't care for it very much. We evidently got enough DNA though for them to run the test. It only took about two weeks, less than the time that they had allotted. So I was thrilled about that and yes, she is a maltichi. She's 45% Maltese and 20% Chihuahua. I would highly recommend doing this test. It also shows potential physical ailments.

I do not know about the accuracy but it was super easy to get a sample and send it in. When the reseuts were sent back whcih took a little over 2 weeks which is right in the window they provoded, the results were really through. Again I do not know of the accuracy because I have never tested my dog anywhere else before it said my dog is a pit, boxer mix but my dog is white and looks like a terrier. Either way it told me exactly what dog DNA was in my dog whcih came out to 14 and if there was any gentic conditions that could affect him.

Very impressed. The Wisdom Panel was accurate and gave us more information than we expected. We already knew our adopted stray dogs primary breed but it was helpful to learn about all the other breeds he came from. It was interesting how accurate the test was on a variety of traits. Just wish the test report could be printed so we could keep in his file. Couldn't find a way to print unless I just overlooked the tab. Would recommend this test anyway.
