in the description of this product, it says canning jars, and so I bought them specifically to can fruit preserves. The tops are screw on and are not the kind of tops that you can put in a water bath in order for them to seal. I tried to use regular canning caps and rings on them, but the rings do not fit the openings of these jars. Do not buy these if you are trying to can or preserve food.

I ordered these as a warehouse return item. It made the cost less than a dollar a jar so a good deal. I am going to can and seal some fall chutneys and sauces in gift size amounts. These will work well.
I was very impressed with the packaging. I'm not usually thrilled with overly packaged ( or under packaged) items but these were done very well. Closed cell foam liners holding each jar snug in a double layer in a medium cardboard box outer wrap. All are intact with no damage. Well done.
