These are just what you need for your 40x60 barn/shop, I installed six of these in my 40x60 and I'm very pleased. I looked at the 150 watt that were a little cheaper but these are worth the extra buck or two. MY six lights are wired in with number 12 THHN stranded to a 20 amp breaker and they only pull 9 amps, super cheap to operate! And staying well with in the 70% usage range for the 20 amp breaker. These come with a convenient three prong plug for easy outlet installation, but I hard wired mine. Plus they have a 5 year warranty. Either way a very economical light. Highly recommended by me! If you are looking for a high bay light there are a million options. This is one of them. Overall they are more directly down than not too spread out. I have a 32X40 garage with 10' ceiling. They are fine but I felt like 9 of them would be the right number. But then I tried an alternative that had a less blue light, not as bright, but had a greater area of light. Each building is unique and these install very easy so there is nothing negative to say.

Lights are bright but not blinding. installed in a 30 by 36 barn at 14 feet high. 4 lights [150 watt] was plenty. I have not hooked up the dimmer option but lights appear to be of vary good quality. wood walls not painted and a cement floor. If you had painted or white tin walls a dimmer might be needed.
