The good and the bad...The good - simple to use, cross cuts nicely, the unit will not work if it is not sitting on top of the basket. If it gets knocked over, little kids won't get their fingers cut. The BAD - it really is only designed for two or three sheets at a time. For me, when I sent four sheets through a few times in a row, the unit over heated and stopped. I have to wait close to 30 minutes to use it again. If you do bulk shredding this is NOT the unit for that...It is fine for the daily junk mail or credit card statements....I hope this helps you all making the right choice..

My older shredder finally stopped working after many years of use so after reading the reviews and noting that over 200,000 customers purchased this shredder, I chose this particular one rather quickly. The first thing I noted upon its arrival is that it is pretty small. I would prefer not having to empty the basket as often but for smaller jobs where you shred a couple documents daily it will do the job. I was pleased to note that it was substantially quieter than my old shredder and easily shredded groups of 5 pages at a time. I was in no hurry so I didn't try to feed it more than that at a time. The paper slot wasn't as wide as my old shredder so you don't have a lot of wiggle room to feed the paper. If you stay on top of your daily home office shredding needs then this should be perfect for you. If you have boxes of material that needs to be shredded you should look for a more industrial size shredder otherwise you will be emptying the basket frequently and possibly overheating the shredder.

I guess it was about time that I give some feedback on the Amazon Basics 8 sheet Cross Cut Payer Shredder i have had for 7 months now. I have to say I love it. It does everything I need it to do. I always lube my shredders on occasion and they last me a very long time. If I had to wish for anything it wood of been nicer if this shredder came with a bigger catch pail under it but it didn't break the deal it is also easier to empty out the way I look at it. I recommend buying this shredder. I would do it all over again.

I honestly expected very little from this Amazon Basic, given the prices of other 8 / 10 / 12 sheet shredders. But I only had a few more small boxes to go and thought it would make it through those if I went slowly, gave it time to cool off, and kept the teeth cleaned. This has surpassed my expectations and continues to impress. The price is a steal, the quality seems to be very good to great, the noise level is what you would expect and a little quieter than my old shredder. My old shredder was a commercial version on wheels, which I liked and why I only gave this one a 4 star review for maneuverability. But really, if my old one had not had wheels, I would not have noticed. This shredder simply works and keeps working.

I bought this for my mom & it's terrific! She loves it because it does a great job, is super quiet, and was very reasonably priced. I would buy it again! I compared with other office supply stores and discount stores and there was no comparison. The office supply stores started at twice the price (IN store) and the discount stores had little to choose from. This paper shredder is easy to use, empty & clean. It shreds paper efficiently. I like everything about it. It's easy to lift (not heavy), and it's very stable. Without hesitation, I recommend this paper shredder for home use.
