Does the job...

This scanner does the job but the SET UP was slightly time consuming. During the set up I had to reconnect it once .
Scanning to the cloud required a reset of the scanners home page so the icons would reappear. But I don't scan to the cloud...so I keep it on its default setting.
All in all it does what it describes. Setting up direct email scans required a Microsoft email account. At that point, I believe it will scan to gmail once that account is created on your home computer.
It does scan directly to your computers download folder. The software pops up upon each scan, so you can name your folder. Once you do...it also changes the scanned file that is already in your downloads.
This scanner does the job but they really could make everything more simplified and streamlined in my opinion.
P.S. Set up is not difficult just a lot of steps to get everything dialed in.

Works well with Windows AND Linux
Old Geek✓ Verified Purchase•January 31, 2024
I purchased the iX1600 to replace my faithful S500 scanner that lasted for 14+ years until it finally died. The new scanner is certainly much faster and it does seem easier to use after setting up the appropriate profiles. (I'm using the new ScanSnap Home software rather than the ScanSnap Manager program as provided with the S500.) I have the iX1600 directly connected via a USB cable to EITHER a Windows 10 OR a Linux Mint system. Mainly for security reasons I haven't tried connecting the scanner to WiFi or sending scanned documents to the Cloud, so I can't comment on those features.
I mainly scan B&W financial documents, using the "Normal" resolution setting (=300dpi) along with automatic rotation. The resulting files are acceptably small and are easy to read. The OCR implementation seems to work well. I haven't used the new scanner enough to see if paper jamming is a problem, but based on the S500 I'm hoping that will not be a problem.
By using SANE drivers I was able to use the old S500 scanner with my Linux Mint system. I was hoping that the iX1600 could also be used under Linux but there is problem because the Stable version of the SANE Repository contains a backend driver for the iX1500 scanner but NOT for the iX1600! However, the Development branch of the SANE Repository DOES provide support for the iX1600. I used the following commands to add that Repository:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:sane-project/sane-git
sudo apt-get update
In my case it was necessary to REMOVE references to the Stable version of the SANE Repository.
Once the sane-git version of the Repository had been installed it was possible to perform scans using the simple-scan program provided with most Linux distributions. Unfortunately, I found that simple-scan produces overly large PDF files when scanning B&W documents. As an alternative, I found that the following workflow creates much smaller files:
1) Use gscan2pdf to perform the initial scan. Because of some problems with automatic rotation (your mileage may vary) I "hard coded" the required amount of rotation as appropriate (270 degrees when scanning landscape-format documents). I'm currently scanning in lineart format and duplex mode at 150dpi but may raise that to 300dpi to be consistent with ScanSnap Home on Windows. I'm not using any of the OCR or other features available in gscan2pdf. BTW the "name" of the iX1600 when given to gscan2pdf is "fujitsu:ScanScap ix1600:127088".
2) Use ocrmypdf to deskew the scanned pdf file and perform the OCR function. I'm not using any other options that are available with ocrmypdf.
To make the workflow easier I suggest that the gscan2pdf and ocrmypdf programs be run via a script. I'm using a small Python program, but I'm sure there are many other options!
I hope that the above comments on using the iX1600 under Linux prove useful and will help folks avoid some to the problems that I encountered!
*** UPDATE - USING WITH UBUNTU-BASED DISTRIBUTIONS ***
The approach I described above worked with the latest Linux MINT distribution, but I had problems getting the scanner to be recognized when testing it with ZORIN 16.0 and UBUNTU 20.04. The problem seemed to revolve around removing the STABLE version of Sane before installing the GIT (Development version). Here is the solution that finally worked:
First, Uninstall the sane-git repository if previously installed. This is most easily done through the Software & Updates GUI app.
Next, issue the following commands from a terminal:
sudo apt remove ippusbxd
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:sane-project/sane-git
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libsane
(If asked, allow the configuration file for the iX1600 scanner to be updated.)
Finally, reboot your system and run the simple-scan program to verify that the iX1600 scanner is now (hopefully) found!
Hope this helps - it took me quite awhile to determine the appropriate steps needed to get the iX1600 recognized! Wayne

Great Scanner!!

This is my fourth scanner, and this is the best I've used. I tired purchasing cheaper ones, but I returned them to Amazon (fortunately they have a fantastic return policy). I tried the Epson ES-C320W but had so many connection problems, I gave up on it.
The ScanSnap IX1600 is so easy to use!!!
Lift the lid. Touch the scan button. Your done! That's it! Amazing!
The scanner figures out to use black and white, color, or gray scale. The scan quality is wonderful. Also, the machine will automatically send the scanned file to your email, your cloud or your PC. You can easily share the scanner with family members and coworkers.
The scanner is not cheap. Yet, after all the time I spent being frustrated with other scanners, I figured my time was worth the extra cost. I'm so glad I upgraded to this scanner. I'm able to get rid of so much paperwork, in so little time. If you're thinking of buying a cheaper scanner, save your money and purchase this one. You won't be disappointed.

I bought a Fujitsu Scansnap S510 in 2007, and that wonderful scanner server me well for about 17 years, yes ladies and gentlemen !
Of course I need to be honest, there was a bit of a hiccup a few years after buying it, they stopped releasing new versions of the software and I suddenly couldn't use my scanner anymore when I upgraded my Windows (to version 8, 9, or 10, I don't remember). I found a solution though, I bought a piece of software that can use every scanner in the world, so I was able to continue using my Scansnap S510 for many years. Like I said, 17 years of loyal services in total ! And the scan quality was absolutely perfect for me, even nowadays.
To my big surprise it finally died now, in April 2024. There are little rubber things designed to pull the paper, they ended up being melted somehow. I guess rubber is not eternal after all. I imagine I could have attempted to replace these parts, but I did not want to bother and just bought the new iX1600.
New Scansnap, same experience. I am still absolutely delighted. The software improved a lot I would say, I prefer it over the 2007 version. The scanner is otherwise still the same great scanner it always was. It is fast, the quality of the scans is amazing, the software is easy and intuitive. It eats and sorts piles of papers quickly without causing trouble or jamming, it is an absolute pleasure to scan with this device. It has amazing extra bells and whistles, like wireless connection, usability from a mobile device, upload scans to the cloud etc. Not really necessary in my opinion, I scan on my PC and the folder is already synchronized with my Cloud solution, but the options are there and they work well.
Hopefully it will also last another 17 years ! ;-)
