The item arrived earlier than expected and in good condition. The artwork on the cards is lovely and I especially appreciated the Chinese Zodiac Jokers. The cards are a little difficult for these old fingers to shuffle but by dividing the deck and shuffling smaller groups and then shuffling them together I managed to get a good mix.
The instructions included read like the rules for playing with tiles. We dealt (no pun intended) with the problem by having all four players take a portion of the deck to shuffle, then rolling the dice to determine the "oya" and reassembling the deck in wind order. Deal hands by sets of four cards to each player and place the remainder of the deck as the "draw" pile. Flowers and Kongs result in drawing an extra card, discards are laid in front of each player Riichi style. Alternatively you could have a central discard pile and improve your memory while you play.
Highly recommended, if you are on the fence about playing Mahjong and want an inexpensive way to try out the game, or if you are an "old hand" and need something different to spice up your game, this is the way to go.

I am obsessed with Mah Jongg, and already have a travel set with thin tiles, but when I saw these cards for just under $10, I thought,'Why not?" They are beautifully designed and come in a compact box. I also purchased 4 plastic holders for playing cards, in order to have greater ease to work with the cards. If you built "walls" with them, the walls would be too spread out, so I would just play with the deck in the middle of the table, to draw from, after distributing the initial cards, and then allow the discarded cards spread out over the table. Haven't used them yet, but will take them on my next trip!
