Outstanding Unit....Outstanding Customer Support!
JZ✓ Verified PurchaseAugust 14, 2023
I can't praise these units and the company's customer support high enough. About two months ago, I finally went to a hearing specialist to get my hearing loss tested, and to learn of the cost and viability of hearing aids. My hearing loss has been gradually getting worse over the past few years and gotten to the point where I was frustrated trying to hear conversations in public settings and even at home with my very patient wife. I am a very active 72 and spent nearly all of my adult life in and around airplanes and nearby loud rocket engines. The hearing specialist, did a comprehensive exam and hearing test and said I had moderate to severe hearing loss especially in the higher frequencies, mostly over the audio spectrum of the human voice and higher. Since I was hearing only the lows, almost all the speech I heard was a muffled, garbled mess and I was missing over half the conversation nearly regardless of who was talking. I say "nearly" because those who pronounced the consonants, and had better diction, were more understandable than others and oddly enough, folks speaking louder didn't help. The hearing specialist let me try out a couple of different types of hearing aids, supposedly tailored to mitigate my loss over the higher frequency spectrum. The estimated cost to purchase $4,000 to 6,000 for a pair. That was a bit much, especially on a fixed income and no help from medicare and a little from my supplemental health insurance. So I went without.......at least until a few weeks ago. I found Banglijian on-line at Amazon and read their specs very closely. Did I mention I am a retired engineer, pilot and rocket surgeon ? No? Well I am/was and we typically analyze everything to the nth degree.
At first I ordered one of their model BLJ-109 which offered gain (or amplification) 70-110 dB for moderate to severe hearing loss. I was really excited when it arrived. The quality looked to be outstanding, the modes of operation were just what I wanted and it covered the audio spectrum improvement in the higher frequencies where I was lacking, it was noise cancelling and was re-chargeable. Wow! After trying it on, I heard sounds I have long forgotten. The refrigerator running, birds singing, the washing machine and dryer thumping, etc. Then came the shock sounds of a cabinet door closing a little too hard, the air compressor kicking in, loud motorcycles zooming by......etc., etc.
I knew very shortly, this were far too loud for me, even on the lowest volume setting. Perhaps I was mistaken in what I ordered or the hearing aid specialist over-stated my hearing loss. In any event, I ordered the model Ziv-201A (subject of this review) to try. I had similar features as the 109 but a better, lower gain for me. I figured I needed 2 hearing aids anyway as I had bilateral hearing loss. My amazement in the trying the new model was similar to the first except I could hear just fine on the lowest volume setting of the 201A. If I needed a little more volume, I could just turn it up and still had plenty of gain left as my hearing will no doubt continue to decline. I should also mention the 201A has a much smaller diameter ear tube, it fits me better, is more comfortable and much less noticeable from the side or front view. Not that I'm so vain, but I know folks who are, and would never wear one in public.
I sent a note to Banglijian, via Amazon, of my discovery and to my amazement they offered to take the 109 hearing aid back and send me another Ziv-201A to replace it, so now I'd have two of the same types. I agreed to pay the return shipping and the difference in price, but that was really insignificant. I now have two matched and perfectly functioning aids (amplifiers if you wish) that for now completely solves my hearing problem in the frequency range of interest. Now to see how they hold up, but I don't think that will be much of an issue as they come with a 3 year warranty and their customer support seems to be outstanding in every way. The cost is especially rewarding.....A couple of hundred dollars plus change versus $4-6K. No, they don't have all the bells and whistles like blue tooth connectivity, program selection via a cell phone, cell phone answering and conversation from 25 feet away, but I think I can live with that. In the meantime, thank you Banglijian, and to folks who might be hesitant, give them a try. Based on my experience, I honestly don't see how one can go wrong. Read the specifications carefully and hopefully you can find one that works for you at an amazingly affordable price.
My Experience

I've had a hearing problem for years and bought some expensive hearing aids about twenty years ago. They helped to increase volume but they didn't help distinguish the spoken word. They also had batteries that were a pain to change. I finally set them aside.
My hearing deteriorated and I decided to try an inexpensive hearing device knowing that technology had improved and maybe there was now something out there that would work for me. In searching Amazon I found the Banglijian Ziv-206 and decided to try it. It was a little more expensive than the other Banglijian models but had additional features.
After fitting the Ziv-206 it was acceptable and fixed my problem but only when the thin tube was used and volume (gain) was at the lowest setting.
It was suggested by Banglijian rep, Kaven, that I try the Ziv-201A as it had less gain.
I ordered and fitted the Ziv-201A and was very pleased. The gain settings now allowed a much broader selection without excessive feedback!
There were some learnings I had with the fitting process.
-Tube size... Two tube sizes are supplied, thin tube and thick tube. The thin tube reduces overall gain and is preformed for ear fit with minimum visibility. The thick tube offers higher gain and must be cut to proper length.
I liked the thin tube best but the preformed shape was too short and caused the earpiece to pull from my ear canal. Additionally the device sat on top of the ear rather than behind it... I didn't think I had large ears. So I reverted to the large tube, cut to fit, and resolved the problem.
-Earpiece... There are numerous earpieces to choose from and experimentation is required to find the best fit and function. In addition to size some have double lip, single lip, and slots. The hole to attach earpiece to the tube differs in size between the thin and thick tubes... packaged together.
I found that the slotted earpiece worked best for me. It was more comfortable in the ear and provided a more "natural" sound. The negative is that it will produce feedback (squeal) where the solid (single and double lip) is better to reduce/ eliminate squeal. The slotted earpiece is meant for the thin tube as the hole to mount it is smaller than desired for the large tube, however, with a little effort it can be attached to the large tube.
-Customer service... Banglijian rep, Kaven, can't be beat for assistance and service!
-Hearing test... I found a hearing test online that is helpful in determining degree an frequencies of hearing loss. It is attached. Amazon won't allow posting of url but it can be found searching the web for online hearing test or looking at the attachment bottom of page. My loss at higher frequencies was deemed severe but the Ziv-206 had too much gain where the Ziv-201A was more appropriate.
---Summary.. I'm very pleased with the Banglijian Ziv-201A but it does take a while to achieve proper fitting. For me, the price of the unit and results are well worth the effort! Full recharge takes less than two hours. It would be nice if the thin tube had adjustable length or larger size selection.
Hopefully this review will reduce the time and effort required for others.
Customer Service Great

UPDATE: Both my replacement are going downhill after 22 months on one and the other is going on 3.5 years since these both were free replacements under the 3 year warranty am not too upset. This time around I contact customer service and they responded the next day by e-mail. I knew I wouldn't get a replacement since one replacement was under 18 months warranty, it made it to almost 24 months .It still works sound wise, but wouldn't hold a charge for more the 9 hours .This hear aids hold 24 hrs or more if charged everyday for two hours ,so at 8 o'clock every night it would shut off and if I needed for more time I would charge again. The older hearing aid audio was decreasing by evening time .I could hear somewhat but had to turn up TV. Like I said not disappointed it is over 3 years old .Hearing aids on average last 3 to 5 years. I question having it repair ,but it came to $60.00 which include me paying shipping. They were running a special on the 201A for two at 169.00 which is a great saving since one cost 139.00. So I ordered them and added the 3 year warranty supply by Amazon .I have received the two and they came in a magnet lock box with all the accessories within two days .I love this company ,little disappointed they changed warranty from 3 years to 18 months but I totally get it, feel for the price these hearing aids are worth the money since they are ditgital circuited and are easy to use and rechargeable which is such a nice feature over batteries and cost wise you can't beat the price or the service. If you read the booklet carefully you can trouble shoot these without a problem. Also like the ear plugs which come in different sizes which is key in using them. I wear these with my glasses with no problem ,mask was a bit of a problem, but we're getting away from that so that's a plus. Also if am not wearing my aids I don't hear TV and can only hear my husband if I am in the same room and standing close ,so they work really well if your really hard hearing I think.
Written two years ago: I have 4 of these amplifiers. One went out after 15 months it wouldn't recharge company replaced free of charge. I wore replacement for 14 months and started having problems again I contacted Banglijian customer service was told I would have to pay for parts to fix. I disagreed because I was told 3 year warranty on replacement . Found out there was a policy change, but being a loyal user cause I bought another new one till I could get a replacement because of warranty ,also I had to have something to use. Customer service gifted me another one since I was under old agreement with warranty.
Oh, it’s so nice to be able to hear again.

Update, 25Dec18:
Still enthralled with this product. It has helped a lot. I've used the amplifier everyday in the right ear, and yesterday, switched it, for a lark, briefly to the other ear. Wow! What I've been missing!

So, time to order one for the left ear. After all, the product has proved itself in every way and is not at all expensive. It has been easy to use and totally reliable. One charge on the included USB adapter for about two hours, and the amplifier is still working 22 hours later. (Some of my days run long, LOL.)

Merry Christmas everyone and happy hearing!

Update, 2 hours later:
Went to a committee meeting tonight attended by eight people. The meeting table was set up in a high-ceilinged auditorium, and the multi-person discussion was mixed in with a bit of noise from traffic outside and the HVAC system inside. For sure, the amplifier markedly improved my ability to track the conversations going on around me. Again, I'm ready to buy another amplifier for the other ear. So glad I moved forward on giving this hearing amplifier a try.

First Review, 14Nov18: So far, so good. Popped the amplifier into my ear about an hour ago and oh, I feel like I might have some of my life back. Perhaps the unit is producing a tiny bit of background noise, but to be able to otherwise clearly hear the house clock's hourly chimes and the furnace running (baby, today, it is cold outside), what an improvement. I'm ready to buy another amplifier for the other ear.

Otherwise, what prospective buyers might want to know? The unit is small, lightweight, unobstrusive, and comfortable. The instructions are clear and the unit is easy to adjust. Changing the ear plugs and switching the slim ear tube from left to right was easy. Setting up the charging cord and plugging it in presented no grand mystery. The controls on the unit, a power button and a rocker switch, are straight forward to operate. (Power button: hold it 3 seconds to turn unit on or off, briefly click it to switch between two hearing modes; rocker switch: press up to increase volume, press down to decrease volume.)

Regarding communicating with Banglijian about questions and issues, the unit's instructions say to find the Banglijian mark in the unit's Amazon listing and click it. In the screen that comes up, click on the "Ask a question" button. Write your message in the next screen that appears. Per the unit's instructions they will reply within 24 hours. I went to verify this, but did not immediately find the "Ask a question" button. I think they are referring to the usual, Amazon "Ask a question" section, available in all Amazon listings. I'm guessing, using that feature will put you in contact with the seller.
ability to hear maybe affected by a piece of "fuzz" in the sound tube or ear dome

Hello. First, I had a whole paragraph of my thoughts written to share almost completed , when I arrowed out to check on a weblink and lost the whole message. So, I am starting over: This is not a criticism, but a sharing of an experience that might be helpful to others. My left hearing amplifier did not seem to work (no sound amplified ) for a couple of days. Before I decided to contact the customer service representative , Kaven, I decided to change the sound tube and the ear dome. When I pulled the tube and dome out of my ear and examined them closely, I found a tiny piece of fuzz stuck to the underside of the eardome. When I changed the dome, the amplifier started working again. I share this just to left folks know that was my experience. I want to give Kaven high praise for corresponding back very quickly to my inquiries and questions while I am learning how to use thies hearing amplifiers. I just wish I could talk to him by way of an old fashioned telephone !!! My experience so far (about one month) has been that the amplifiers work well when I am watching TV or in a small group conversation. In other cases, the amplifier makes the other sounds too loud, so I turn them off temporarily while still in my ears. Also, I am still having trouble adjusting them to avoid the "whistling sound." I like the fact that these have rechargeable batteries by using USB connections vs. the tiny batteries that have to be manually changed ever so often. However, my experience is that the charge does not last as long as is stated in the user manual on page 10 of 20 to 24 hours. At best, mine have lasted about 16 hours and that is with them being in my ears but not always turned on due to the circumstances I am in. Also , it was very helpful for Kaven to send me a .pdf file download of the users manual so it can be printed in a larger size pages.. The size of the paper Users Manual is a bit small for tired eyes. It might be helpful to have that download link of the users manual attached to the description of the hearing amplifiers right on the Amazon page of description for the devices. For folks shopping, having a readable users manual to review before one decided to buy the product, I think would be VERY helpful. Now, I am going to hit the "Submit" button before I lose this paragraph again. Judy G., Clinton, TN
