An excellent Pi 4 1U Rack
Jeffrey Amos✓ Verified PurchaseAugust 18, 2023
I had looked several years back for something like this for earlier generation Raspberry Pis and found nothing even close to this quality. With POE for easily powering them as well as easy access to nearly all the ports this lets you rack your Piholes, Home Assistant OS, Unifi Controllers, or other local servers you've setup to run on a Raspbery Pi 4.

I do appear to have a glitch in the display example C script they provide that prevents it from pulling my IP as you can see in my pictures. That's less likely due to their script and more to do with a missing dependency or change in my OS. Python sample script provided works fine.
Good product, bought a second one.

Alright here's the deal. You're going to buy this and it will probably be fine. I got one and it had a bad POE hat. They immediately shipped me a replacement POE kit so now I have spare parts. I ordered a second rack and it came with differently colored power lights. I didn't like that and asked for new ones so they immediately shipped those. Customer support is outstanding.

I saw some reviews saying this was difficult to assemble. Honestly, it's pretty easy. It's a little tricky to get the power button gasket to seat flush. I honestly didn't look at the instructions and it went smoothly.

If I ever can find more raspberry pis then I'll buy another one of these.
Great option for rackmounting your Raspberry Pis

I had been looking at the non-POE version of this rackmount for our raspberry pis, but was hesitant because I really wanted POE. I checked the UCTRONICS website to see if they had a POE model, and surprise, it was on their website. I emailed their sales department to ask when it would be available on Amazon. They promptly replied that it would be on Amazon in about a week and stated they'd email me when it was. Sure enough, they kept their word and about a week later they emailed me the link. I ordered and it was delivered a couple of days later. I installed one pi that night and found the instructions could use a little improvement (they have since emailed me updated / improved instructions). The most difficult parts were: 1) getting the nuts that hold the display screen on the rack started on the mounting stud 2) getting the flexible circuit board of the SD card adapter installed in the upper / POE board. Tip: once you get it seated in the slot, don't pull it out thinking it will insert as easily a second time. Once you've installed one pi on the rack, the remaining go quickly (my 10 yr old son did his with some guidance from what I learned from doing the first one). Overall, the build quality and functionality are excellent - exactly as it is described to be. It definitely neatens up my server / network rack and is exactly what I was looking for. Highly recommended. Not only is the product great, but the UCTRONICs pre-sales team was helpful and the fact they emailed me improved instructions without my even asking is a pretty good indicator of the quality of the company itself. If you're on the fence about it, don't be, just get it.
Exactly what I needed

This product is exactly what I needed.

For those running a rack mount system this is a must if running >1 Pi 4 especially if you can take advantage of POE+. No muss, no fuss, no AC/DC.
Advantages:
- No AC/DC needed. If you already run POE/POE+ on your switch(es) then you will no longer need the USB-C power. This was critical for me as having to run more power to my rack introduces complexity.
- I can run upto 4 PIs in a 1U with all buttons, indicators, slots, etc. right up front. This makes it super easy to maintain, access and repurpose if I need to.
Disadvantages:
- if I had to be nit picky I would say price. However given the quality of the product, all that it offers and its ease of use, I'm okay with what I paid others may not. It comes with everything that you need; just add your own PIs.
Bonus:
The LCD panel is awesome. You download a C program, compile it and run at runtime. Super easy to do and makes the rack look professional. The only suggestion here would be to display the hostname in additional to all the other details, but I can rectify that with a label.
To all the nay sayers out there about assembly. I realize that this unit has done through revisions, but the revision that I have ( as of Aug 2021 ) assembly was very easy. In fact half of the unit was already assembled. All that I had to do was assemble the Pi along with the daughter cards and cables, secure with screws and done. If you ever put a kit together or ikea furniture its that simple.
Highly recommended all in one unit.
Works as avertised - just be patient.

It took a lot of patience to get this mounted on my rack. Unfortunately, I had two Rasps handy. Otherwise, I would have installed all 4 and mounted in the rack and called it a project. In a couple of days, I have to pull it off my rack and mount the other two Rasps when they arrive. Have to deal with worldwide shortage of supplies.

Now, onto the UCTRONICS. As I mentioned in the subject, it works as advertised. Please keep this in consideration when mounting the kit:

1) hook the HDMI converter to the Rasp first.
2) hook the SD card converter SD-Card Side and let the other side loose till the very end.
3) when placing the hat, don't miss any of the pins.
4) it worked best for me when i hooked the metal stadoffs in place without nuts.
5) as you mount the set to the mount, first screw in the two screws for the hdmi converted. Don't tighten two hard.
6) put the two screws at the bottom of the mount, move the rasps slightly to make sure the screws go through the Rasps and through the metal stadoffs. Don't tighten two hard.
7) out the nuts on the top side of the standoffs and again don't tighten too hard.
8) put the SD card in front if you plan to use the SD card converter cable.
9) tightn everything now making sure the front plate looks alright and aligned with all.
10) hook the SD Card converter cable., OLED cable, and Power cable to the hat.
11) mount the unit to the rack.

Please note for you to get best results, use approved Cat5e, Cat6 cables, and make sure your POE switch is not out of wattage/power.

also note:

1) you have to enable I2C in raspi-config to get the display to work.
2) you have to build the app to power the OLED and include this app in auto start RC2.Local
