After research, I picked this one!
tracy✓ Verified PurchaseAugust 12, 2023
After 3 months of research, I picked the Classic Brands w/ massage for a few reasons. I was looking at beds from Overstock, Wayfair, Walmart, Costco and the mattress stores in town, it was Black Friday sales, and I finally decided on this one on Amazon. I picked this model due to the clean look of the upholstered frame & the height of the legs, no platform blocks needed. Due to a small bedroom, space is a big problem, so I needed something high enough to store many items underneath. I knew that the platform blocks I usually use are out due to the massage feature. After assembled , I measured 11 inches of storage from floor to bottom of adjustable base, and the base is about 3.5-4 inches before the mattress. The only problem I have w/ the bed is that the USB plugs are only on 1 side. Again, with the super small space, I need to have the bed against a wall on the right side. So the USB plugs are against the wall & not usable. BUT, that is not a deal breaker.
I decided to purchase an adjustable bed after being diagnosed with arthritis in my lower back & tired of sleeping w/ pillows under my legs. This adjustable frame allows me to lift legs up (letting my lower back "release" during sleeping) and lift/ raise head without using 3 pillows. The massage is not really a "massage," more like a vibrating bed. Yes, like the beds in certain motels that cost 1 quarter! BUT, after the vibrating feature stops, I can feel a difference. For this reason, I would spend a few dollars more for the "massage" feature again. I will have this bed for another year or two, while I am renting this apt, but after I leave apt the bed will be going into my old room at my mother's house...for when I visit. One more thing, I couldn't decide between a wall-hugging adj frame or this one while I was browsing frames. The "Wall-hugging" frame moves up the back wall, allowing for the person to stay the same distance from their nightstand. This frame lifts forward pushing you closer to the end of the bed & this makes my nightstand slightly out of reach when fully lifted. Not a big deal, but the next adj frame I purchase will be a wall-hugger.
I was also looking for a new mattress during those 3 months of searching. Due to my back, I wanted a firmer mattress than what I was currently sleeping on (a plush spring Sealy mattress) in the range of a 7-8 out of 10 on the firmness scale. I did NOT want the sink-in feeling & heat of a normal memory foam, but I had to find something that was adjustable bed friendly. After narrowing it down, I choose the 10 inch Lucid Hybrid w/ Latex foam. This is the mattress w/ the green stripe around the zipper. I was going back & forth trying to decide between the 10" and 12" mattress, but ended up picking the 10" inch so it can bend better with the adjustable frame. I am very happy with both of my purchases!
PROS:
1) High clearance for under bed storage. 11 inches
2) Vibrating feature is great
3) Upholstered frame looks great on its own
4) Head & feet adjust to to high degree levels.
5) Easy set up. I did it within 20 min.

CONS:
1) USB is not on both sides, only right side which is against wall
2) When "head" is fully up, can't reach nightstand...it is now behind me.
3) Don't lose remote. No "flat" button on frame. There might be a reset button under frame, but can't reach/find.

All in all, I love this bed frame!
a genuine value in a world full of overpriced foam and adjustable bases

i've had experiences with a leggett and platt (l&p) adjustable base (brookwood from costco) that costs literally 3x more than this bed. here are the key features we found in shopping and using adjustable bases:

1. cost: L&P is 3 times more expensive than this--amazon's classic brands bed
2. elevation of head: works perfectly--equal to l&p. i think the bend point for the classic brands is about 30 inches--the l&p is about 27 inches. to us, i thought it might make a difference to move the pivot point on my back--but really, it didn't. i would say the classic brands motor is slightly quieter and much faster.
3. foot elevation: equal on both beds. both also have the metal bottom supports to hold the mattress in. once again, the motor is quieter and faster than the L&P.
4. fit and finish--this is where the lower cost of the classic brands really shows up. the more expensive L&P is slightly better all around--everything fits and assembles easily with the L&P. for this classic brands, though, it looks fine from the top and exterior (which is what we would see when the bed is assembled). but underneath you can see a few loose threads. also, a lot of the parts fit--but not without some effort. for example, more than a few reviewers mention how the four corner legs may not screw in easily--for me one of them took some forcing. i think it was due to a little pain being in the threads of one of the legs or the hole. more importantly, two prongs that hold the head motor (that elevates the upper half of the bed) didn't fit easily. i talk about this in more detail at the end, but this was the biggest detraction of the lower priced classic brands bed.
5. customer service: haven't had to call L&P yet, which may be a sign of great customer service. but i have no complaints with the responsiveness of classic brands so far. even though there is no number to talk to a human... (i've called their service number, pressed whatever number for tech support, and it just loops you back to the main message--so if you need to talk to someone, this bed is not for you). but for me, all the customer service i get is via email--and their attitude is excellent and responsive. also, i found this video really helpful for installation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5Dc9X98Cjg (or search for "Adjustable Comfort Adjustable Bed Assembly Instructions" by "classic brands." frankly--the attached instructions for this classic brands bed were far more clear and easy to understand than the L&P instructions, which is actually just misleading if not plainly wrong.
6. the classic brands remote control--it is quite nice. powerful, very rectangular, and clear which way is top (where the illuminated and helpful screen is).

here are the things that we wondered about while we were purchasing but turned out to be less important in using the beds
7. this classic brands adjustable base does NOT have wall hugger. for us, this really is a trivial thing. wall hugger may be worth $100 more to me. but it does add a complicated motion to the movement of the beds. i tend to prefer simple as that means less service in fixing a mechanism one day.
8. the massage mechanism is quieter than the l&p--equally effective, but we don't use this feature at all other than to fake annoy each other on quiet sundays. we have neighbors downstairs, and at least the classic brands won't be waking any neighbors up.
9. usb plugs, underlights, other little bells and whistles--does not matter to us one bit. for usb charging, we use far faster chargers we bought on amazon--maybe next time, the bed companies will let us attach our own phone chargers somehow with an outlet plug.
10. also the L&P has velcro strips to help hold the bed in place. in effect, they add more crinkly noise as the bed goes up and down. so the classic brands is slightly a winner here.

for the price, classic brands is a great value. totally worth it. the delivery from amazon was great--the fellows were very nice. if i had to do this all over again--even in both beds were the same price, i'd have bought the classic brands bed. but the fact that L&P is 3 times more expensive... it is a no brainer. i can literally buy 2-3 of these beds before hitting the same retail price of most other offerings.

i'd say my one caveat was in putting together the bed. most of it was really easy, except for attaching the head motor to the bed. one of the prongs that holds the head motor (the one closer to the middle of the bed) was a bit too tight. the motor arm could fit halfway into the prongs but no further, making the cotter pin unusable. yes, i did try wd40, prying, and heating the iron and bending it. so to use it, i had to consider removing the plastic covering (which probably has a purpose in protecting the head motor. i will say jim at the email offered to send me a replacement upper half of the bed--so the response was instant and generous. (that would have been very heavy for him to ship out to me).
An excellent product at an exceptional price!!

We have provided separate comments on the mattress we purchased from Amazon. We monitored the pricing on this unit and the mattresses we purchased to go with the platforms that we are commenting on here. I tracked the various offers for platforms offered by Amazon for several months until saw what appeared to be the lowest pricing we had seen anywhere for this type of product that included all the features we wanted including a three level massage feature for both the head and foot area of the platform. This was the only item included with the unit that seemed to have a significant number of negative comments about it. So when I purchased two units it was the first thing I checked after getting the platform together and putting the mattress on it. First of all our units had three levels of intensity for each of the ends of the bed that can be adjusted separately or jointly depending on your preferences. After reading the negative comments on this item I wondered if the people commenting realized that the unit had the three intensities to choose from. In any event I have found these choices to be quite adequate and appropriate for this type of massage feature. The only problem I have had with it is that while it is very quiet for this type of operation the noise is still to disturbing for my wife for me to use while she is trying to sleep. Never the less we have worked out a compromise that works for the both of us and I find it a real plus for helping with my back pain.
The other significant comment were the problems reported in several reviews concerning putting it together. Based on those reviews we were prepared to seek assistance if putting them together became to big a task for my wife and I to take on. When the first unit arrived we decided to give it a try ourselves. Using a dolly made moving the box around the house quite easy. We placed the box in the bedroom where it would be used and opened the box easily. Removing the two pieces took both of us to lift out of the box and place on the floor. We read the somewhat limited instructions and after reading them carefully a couple of times decided that the effort was minmal and that we could handle it. The assembly consisted of attaching the six steel legs, slipping the two drive motors into place and plugging in four well marked cables to a common control and power box and putting two batteries into the remote. The first time around took about twenty minutes including rereading the instructions a couple of times as we worked to avoid making any mistakes. When it was completed we both got at an end of the unit and easily flipped it over and set it in to place. It worked perfectly the first time an every time sense then . We will report again in about six months about how they are holding up to regular use but so far so good. The second unit we put together in a little over ten minutes from beginning to end and it to has worked perfectly to date.

We were impressed with the ease that the unit went together with a well thought out plan by the manufacture and providing a unit that can be put together by just about anyone at any skill level. It definitely helps hugely to have two people involved particularly for the lifting and placement fo the bed in the right place. So far the performance of the unit and construction quality place it on par with the industry standard for bed platforms priced even on Amazon at much higher prices. We felt the pricing we paid for each unit at under $500 each was a real bargain for this product and when added it to the deeply discounted mattresses we purchased with it gave us a real bargain in getting what in our view is a fully competitive split king bed that we both enjoy at a price of half what we have seen anywhere else for a quality product. We have been a sleep number bed owner for about eight years and tried several times to try to get one of their comparable products but the best we were ever able to get a quote was $4000 plus for a split king. Thanks Amazon for providing a competitive product at a fair and reasonable price. We will provide follow up from time to time as we evaluate how it performs over time.

This may be a little long but well worth it after I read 700 plus question about this item. I get the bad out of the way first. 1) I hope Amazon or this seller will address the shipping complaint with UPS because it sucked. I was surprised to be receiving this bed frame just two days after I ordered it. When I learned it was arriving Wednesday 11:30 am -3:30 pm, I had to pay UPS 8 dollars to lock in a two-hour window of my choice, I chose 11:30 am to 1:30 Pm. I had my brother and other help to come and be here because of its size. At 1:50 pm, UPS told me they had a problem with their truck but no specifics, they delayed delivery until today. At 1:50 pm today, UPS notified me that it would be Friday. I called them yesterday and today because I have been waiting two days, staying at home, tapping my feet and out 8 bucks...After another phone call and a transfer, I found out the package was not deliverable at my address. I inquired as to why and UPS customer support had to reach out to the office that had it to get an answer for me. They told me it was too heavy for the driver to lift. My package had been on that truck since yesterday, the driver just did not want to deliver it. I understand that but they did not have to lie to me. I prearranged help to be here when they sent me notification it was out for delivery... Bad on UPS. I did get the bed frame today but had to jump through hoops, now I have to get the 8 dollars refunded.
Now the bed, The bed was set up in about one hour because I was working alone. I could not get the help I had yesterday. I got it all put together ( I purchased two Twin xl bed frames) One of the beds worked right out of the box. The other bed was not working but after trying multiple times to get it programmed, I went to the manufacturer's website and had both beds working and synchronized in no time at all, with one remote. They are now working perfectly.
My inside bed frame measurements were 77-1/4" x 80-1/4". The side boards (The biggest worry for me) on my bed are 11-1/2" from the top of the floor to the top of the boards. The two twin XL bed frames fit right in with about a finger width on each side left over.~A little tight, but it fit and the bed platform sits inside, about 1" below the top of the boards with all the leg extensions installed. The length of the bed frames was no problem for my bed frame. I have about an inch of clearance at the foot of my bed and about 1/2" at the headboard. The twin XL's should fit inside a bed frame that is 76-1/2", There is wiggle room but I would not go any smaller and if you're using twin XL beds, you want to use them paired because they will rub on each other if you do not. I have a 12" Serta, Sleep to go mattress so my bed height is 26". That is perfect if you are 6 ft. tall or taller, it will put your feet flat on the ground, sitting on the bed with a foam mattress. Now for the sounds: The motors are 5 STAR, very quiet ride! I love this feature. I have Meniers' Disease and Semi-Circular Canal Dehiscence, Sound and vibrations are the two things I cannot handle. As far as the vibration feature, I am sorry, but cannot give a fair review because of the illness I have, I cannot use that function. I only know that it works and it vibrates and there are one at the foot and one behind the shoulder on each bed. The head and foot both raise. A lot of people keep asking how high does the head raise. Well, for me, high enough to make you very uncomfortable if you like sitting like that and with the foot raised, you may feel like you are going to be folded and squeezed. I'd also like to add that the reason I purchased the Twin XL's is that they were 1) Cheaper than the single king platform. 2)I wanted the option of having a split king in the future. 3) I can take them down and move them around with no problems. I was worried about getting the King up 15 steps, then into the master bedroom. The Twin XL's sole this problem. Bottom line: This is at a great price compared to other similar models. I live on a budget and these platforms fit my needs!
Old Ladies Can Put This Together
OldCook✓ Verified PurchaseJune 27, 2023
I read every page of reviews for this adjustable bed and was slightly worried that it would be too heavy to even get into the bedroom, much less put together by two 70-something old ladies. Just so you don't have to read the rest of this, I'll tell you that we got it done in about 2 hours. The box was delivered by UPS only 6 days after I ordered it (which I found amazing), and it was fortunately left on the front porch. That was 3 steps we didn't have to get the box up. Having read a suggestion that the box be opened wherever the delivery service left it and the pieces be brought in one at a time, I thought that might be a good idea. Really though, it's not that heavy to drag, although getting it to a second floor might be problematical. You might need someone younger than me to help. We only had a slight threshold to get it over, but putting a towel under the end of the box made the dragging work. To keep from possibly scratching the hardwood floor, we kept towels under the entire bottom and pushed/pulled the box on edge to the bedroom and onto the rug. Piece of cake. Then got out the handy box cutter and freed the bed frame. Frankly, moving the queen mattress and old box spring to the hallway, and deconstructing the headboard, foot board, side rails, and slats of the existing bed was the worst job. Onto the new frame: It really doesn't break down into two halves; it's hinged and folded up. The 6 legs are in a separate bag and a lightweight box with the remote is folded up inside the metal frame. You won't save much weight by opening the box on the porch and bringing pieces in. Once the cardboard box was cut loose in the bedroom, we did leave the frame on its side vertically (as suggested by one of the reviewers) opened it out, admired the motors (and were thankful they were pre-attached) and got the legs fastened on. That's really the only assembly you do. They tell you not to turn it over while balanced one side's legs, which would require you to actually lift the whole 160 pound thing and put it on its feet. Two old ladies could not do that, so we disobeyed the instructions and quickly let her flop down in a controlled fall to horizontal. No bent legs. Synced the remote per the instructions and tested the up/down movement. Then put the existing 12" memory foam mattress on top. Tested the up/down with the mattress. Oops, forgot to install the bottom mattress stabilizer bars. You can do it after the mattress is on, but probably much easier without the mattress blocking those tiny holes. Re-constructed the fancy headboard, foot board, and side rails, which was made to fit a 60x80 queen box spring and fit perfectly around the Classic Brands frame, because they obviously know that people want to keep their expensive old bed frames. Now there are 4 legs holding up the outside frame and 6 metal legs very close on the inside. Base is about 1" below the level of the old box spring, which means it's easier to climb into bed and the bedspread is now long enough on the sides. Amazingly, the area under the bed still allowed me to cram the same junk under the bed as before (a double bed sized 5" foam mattress used as an emergency guest bed). As long as the old stuff fits under the motors and is no wider than 47" and no longer than 75", it still fits. Made up the bed. Everything fits as usual. Bed frame was delivered 3 PM, started working on it 5 PM, all done by 7 PM, sound asleep in new bed by 10 PM. No more GERD from flat mattress, can read comfortably in bed, can raise my feet if I want. Love it!
3/9/21: UPDATE*** This bed base is still working just fine! The batteries are still good too.
