I didn't have any of the little misfortunes that some other reviewers have had, and I'm pretty happy with mine. I wish the lid latched, but I knew it didn't when I bought it. I got this for storing some of my more formal and less used flatware, including a new set. Looks very fancy. We'll see how it holds up, but I can't particularly imagine it would look rough with mostly storage-type use.
So yeah, no issues, lacquer on top seems fine, no scratches I noticed. I'm able to comfortably store two sets/patterns in here.

Maybe adequate, looks good from a distance

This looks like a classy case for your sterling-silverware. When you get up close to it though, you can see that the workmanship is more than a bit shoddy. There's no sign of craftsmanship; the parts are slapped together rather roughly and nothing fits quite right. The staining is a lovely color, but you can see how thin it is, so it's going to be rather prone to scratches with any sort of use.
As far as usability, the carrying handles seem OK for the empty case, but if you actually filled it up with silverware which tends to be somewhat heavy, I'm not at all sure they'd be able to carry the load. I'd recommend carrying this case carefully from the bottom. But, don't drop or tip it, because there is no latch, clasp, or hook of any kind to keep the lid closed, just gravity.
The inside, again, looks like classy velvet. What it doesn't particularly look like is the special silversmith's cloth that will protect silverware from tarnishing in storage. The description does specifically state that this case is "Tarnish Proof", which would mean the cloth has to be that special type, and maybe it is, since I have no way of chemically testing it.
I feel like that's the defining factor of this case. If it really is the right kind of cloth to protect your silver, then, it is adequate to the purpose - barely, but adequate. If it's just regular plain old cloth, then, it isn't useful and has no other redeeming characteristics.
I think I'm going to leave my silverware in the protective bags that I know are made of the right stuff, and, perhaps stuff those bags into this case because it definitely looks nicer than the cardboard box they're in now. For that purpose, though, this is more than a bit overpriced, so you will certainly want to shop around. Or, perhaps, some other reviewer with more chemical expertise can confirm that this is in fact the special cloth for sure.

Made with tremendous quality. If you're moving and have expensive silverware that need to be transported this is the perfect silverware holder to have. It is made a soft velvet interior cover and a hard wooden exterior.
It looks nice for display

The outside and inside both look nice. I like the hidden magnetic feature on the lid. It says that it is tarnish resistant but I'd have to wait a couple years to see how well it does with that. The lid and base don't have any way to keep out air, such as a raised, inset inner edge. The "brass" looking handles are a bit too yellow, but it still looks nice, just not exactly brass matching. And, just a personal preference, but I'd like it to have some base legs to keep it raised up off the buffet table. It holds my place settings for 12 just fine.
Excellent solution for mom's Silverware
