Perfect Truck Tent Camping
jzek✓ Verified Purchase•December 7, 2023
I can never get comfortable when sleeping on the ground camping. I just like the feel of being a bit elevated so have been looking at truck tents for a while. Eighteentek has nailed the perfect truck tent in my opinion. Super easy and quick to open and secure to truck bed or ground if you prefer although the take down did take some practice but now its great. It had a surprisingly great amount of space inside. I think the slightly higher roof on the tent gives the feeling of more space and I appreciated it. Its great for 2 people. We fit our air mattress in no problem and I finally feel like a got a good sleep when camping. We did not encounter any rain but the quality of the tent seems like it would repel well against it. Highly recommend if you are looking for a durable quick easy truck tent. Also found the video posted on the take down to be very helpful. My only recommendation would be for Eighteentek to make the bag the tent is stored in to be backpack like for easy carrying. Almost like an upside "V" to slip on your back .
Fits perfect & works great

The truck tent fits great in our Ford F150 with 6.5 ft bed. It extends onto the tailgate, and easily fits my 75" mattress with space to spare at the end for my shoes. I liked how easy it attached to the vehicle and that it didn't interfere with my kayak rack for height. I could sit on my mattresses stacked (6") without having my head hit the top of the domed part (I'm 5'9"). We were out over two very warm nights with heat advisories in affect during the day, but the airflow with all windows open was good enough to allow me to sleep.
After the first night we pulled the tent out, sat it on the ground (mattresses & bedding still inside), and drove off for adventures. When we returned, we picked it up and slid it back in place. Only trick was getting the back poles around the wheel wells.
We're thinking of building a deck at wheel well height so we have the full width the full length.
Even though we had practiced setting up and closing it before we left on our trip, it still feels like its gonna break when you fold it up. My pop-up windshield cover, and my pop-up closthes hamper both have wire in them, this has fiberglass poles. I feel like the pop-up wire bends & flexes easier.
We ended up, out of caution, just connecting the three loops, and laying it flat in the truck bed with the bedding on top of it. Minimal space taken, and we could roll down the truck bed cover. Finished closing it up and putting back in the bag when we got home.
My partner doesn't read directions & "figures it out" and connected the wrong hoops together. Luckily I caught it before anything bad could happen - like a broken pole.
So that's why I took off one star. I think it would be helpful to have color coding or something similar for the big poles that cross at the dome at their connection points. I'm thinking of painting on nail polish or using sharpies to color the matching ends. My partner connected B-to-C and C-to-B instead of C-to-C and B-to-B. I'm afraid that will happen again and he'll collapse & twist it and we'll have a broken pole or two.
We didn't set up the rainfly, so I can't address how well it works. So far, loving this thing! Super handy!

Good tent. More windows would make it perfect

This is by far the easiest truck bed tent to set up. Putting it away takes time to learn but once you figure it out, it's not too bad.
But the only thing that woudl make it perfect are more windows especially on the side for ventilation. It is way too hot to use in the summer due to lack of windows, except solely to sleep in.
A lot more windows and ventilation would be worth paying an extra $30-$40 for this thing.

Rain fly is useless but it is a very easy tent to setup...

I have a 2020 F150 short bed and like to sleep at trailheads so as it get an early start before thunderstorms move in... This tent fits very well into the back of the truck and goes up in minutes... It requires that you tie/clip it down in multiple places and the included plastic clips work well for that... The rain fly on the other hand does not cover from edge to edge of the truck bed which leaves big gaps on either side... Midnight flood anyone? I was a little torn but decided to keep this tent as all the other truck bed tents seemed to suffer from bent/broken tent poles and were MUCH more expensive... These poles are super flexible and if you have ever unfolded/folded any of the "pop-up" shades, toys, etc. you will find this is not too much different... For the rainfly, I purchased an in inexpensive "hammock" tarp and some suction cups and that setup works well... Just wish they would have made the rain fly a little bit bigger/wider...
Read the instructions before closing the tent.

It was nice to find a tent that fits my truck bed. My dog & I rough camp a couple times a year without the hubby. Its an easy set up & nice sleeping up off the ground. I stress please read the closing instructions. It only takes a second & will make closing it easier & keep from breaking the plastic attacking clips. I would know because I broke one. I emailed the manufacturer & they solved my problem. Read the instructions & hopefully the manufacturer will change the plastic clips to metal or a stronger material. ðŸ‘
Happy camping.
