Very versatile and effective sound unit

I'm mostly using the Ocean Digital WR-860 for internet radio, as I'm too far away from the FM stations I like. I did put the unit through its paces to test all its abilities (except for one mode) and here are my results:
(Internet radio) It shines here, with Skytune as its engine. Hundreds of stations and genres, good onscreen information, solid performance given a solid broadband connection. Easy to mark favorites.
(Media centre) It found my private DLNA server (local Plex media server on my laptop) immediately, good interface.
(DAB HD radio) Unable to test this, no DAB broadcasters in my part of the world.
(FM radio) Okay results, mostly because I don't have a lot of local broadcast options. Manual tuning mode is cumbersome, but you can choose scanning signal strength between "strongest stations only" and "all stations."
(Bluetooth) Paired right away, latency of around half a second. Worked fine. Note: bluetooth only one direction, from another device to send audio to the radio unit. If you want to use bluetooth wireless headphones or earbuds for output, you'll need a dongle to plug into the output jack.
(Aux-in) Worked exactly as expected.
(MP3 on USB) (MP3 on Micro SD card) Worked fine, but does not interpret metadata, album covers or sort. If a folder equals an album, you can choose it individually.
Alarms, sleep timers, audio EQ, remote control (included) and remote control via smart phone app all available and functional. Some depth to the menus, but the scrolling knob on top is a great help. The volume knob is incremental. Buttons atop unit are responsive and quick, remote buttons are standard and effective.
I wish there was an easy way to switch between daytime mode, with the unit making sound but showing the clock, and nighttime mode, with the unit in standby and the clock very dim or off but not in power off mode via the back switch. The display is dimmable, but then I want it brighter the next day. Not a huge deal.
Overall this unit is exactly what I was looking for.

Great Sound, easy set up. Ocean WR 860

We had a "Logitech Squeezebox" for a long time - to get internet radio. Logitech decided to shut down its operation this month (February 2024). So...I did a LOT of research to find a replacement. There are many choices out there! I kept coming back to the Ocean WR-860. (Mostly for the design). The reviews were very good. It came quick - even though (I think) it came up from the States. RTFM. Set up was pretty straight forward. Less than half an hour. Connecting to the WIFI key was fairly easy. What we like is the LCD screen is dimable. Looks nice. Great sound!. We had a Monsoon speaker system hooked up to the Squeezebox, but don't need it for this. Lots of top end if you want to annoy neighbors! So... if you're looking to replace your pooched Squeezebox check out the Ocean WR 860. It is still new, so I don't know how many presets I can hook up, but we have all we need. Jazz FM91, New Classical FM96.3, CBC 1 +2, KSYM90.1 - great San Antonio Texas student radio station. If you can pick up the signals you want without WIFI it can do old school FM with an antenna. Great Radio.
Great modern radio

This radio is so good, it's like having a personal DJ who knows exactly what you need to relax and sleep. The stress relief and relaxation features are so effective that I fell asleep during a meeting. The alarm clock is so loud that it wakes up my neighbors, but I don't mind because they're always so grumpy. The sleep timer is so convenient that I can finally stop counting sheep. The line out and aux in features are so versatile that I can connect it to my phone and play my favorite tunes. The 2.4" color screen is so bright that it doubles as a night light. And the stereo speakers are so powerful that I can hear them from the other side of the ocean. I highly recommend this radio to anyone who wants to sleep like a baby and wake up like a rockstar!
Quality sound

This has so many features: internet radio, FM radio, DAB radio, BT playback just to name a few. The radio sound is crisp and clear. It can be used for an alarm clock, and works for any room. It comes with a remote control for convenience. The only thing it's missing is an AM radio.
Cool device for steaming music
James Murphy✓ Verified Purchase•December 6, 2023
I've got plenty of options for streaming music at my home and office but for some reason I've always liked dedicated 'Internet radios' like this one. Generally speaking, it's an awesome device. Sound quality is excellent, network setup is simple and you've got countless options for connectivity including streaming, Bluetooth and even ordinary FM band among others. It's very stylish looking and you can take care of all necessary setup, configuration, etc. from the remote control.
I do have a few minor gripes. Finding and adding music is a somewhat tedious process but this is due more to the sheer number of streaming stations than any shortcoming of this device. The process of entering text/numbers into the device via the remote is cumbersome. The web based interface is much easier to use. I really wish it had dual band wi-fi so I could connect to a 5Ghz network. To be fair, 2.4Ghz is usually sufficient for streaming audio but since I *have* the bandwidth I would rather use it and improve my audio quality.
These are minor issues for what is generally a solid device that I'll use daily. Highly recommended!
