I bought this as a Christmas gift for my grandson. I'm sure he will love it!

This Mini Hot Sauce Challenge Box by Tabañero comes with 4 different levels of hot sauce. I enjoy a spicy flavorful hot sauce, and my favorite out of these to just eat on wings is the extra hot. It has a nice heat, with nothing crazy, and a nice bit of flavor. The original and the xxx are also palatable. However, the dragons breath just isn't worth it for me. The heat is very intense, and because it's so hot, I can't really discern any flavors in it. These are good for a fun wing night challenge.

I appreciate that these hot sauces are gluten-free, low in sodium, vegan, and kosher, catering to various dietary preferences. The made in the USA label adds to its appeal. However, the XXX Hot and Dragon's Breath varieties are incredibly spicy and not for the faint of heart. I'd rate this hot sauce challenge box at a solid 4 stars for its flavor and heat, but be prepared for a real kick with the spicier options.

A bit of background and caveat. I tasted all these directly, about a double pea size, maybe 1/8 teaspoon, enough to get a good mouth feel but not enough to swallow. I also was runner-up one year in the Louisiana state pepper eating contest so unless you have similar heat tolerance I don't recommend you do this. Original is mild with nice seasoning and doesn't have that strong medicinal aftertaste I associate with habanero. Extra Hot does have more of that taste but the spices keep it from being overbearing. It has a moderate amount of heat with residual mouth heat. XXX indicates it is 4 times hotter than Extra hot, it's a creeper heat that takes a minute to fully kick in. It has much more of the distinctive habanero smell and aftertaste and doesn't seem as seasoned, but that could be the heat playing with my taste buds (they all have similar non-pepper ingredients). This one made my forehead lightly perspire. Dragon's Breath indicates it is 4 times hotter than XXX. It has the most habanero smell of the bunch but the heat quickly makes smell and taste irrelevant. This got all the waterworks going, forehead perspiration, watery eyes and open sinuses and I had to keep holding cold iced tea in my mouth for a good 10 minutes before it wouldn't return to a level of heat that where I had to and it lingered well after. I wish I had timed each of these because I'm not going to do it again, the rest of this is going to be well outnumbered by food. Good stuff.

The Original hot sauce is a good all-around sauce that I can use on just about anything. It has a mild heat that is complemented by a zesty flavor. The Extra Hot hot sauce is a bit spicier, but it still has a good flavor.

The XXX Hot hot sauce is where things start to get serious. This sauce is very hot, but it is still manageable for those who are used to spicy food. I like to use this sauce on wings and chicken tenders.

The Dragon's Breath hot sauce is the hottest of the bunch. This sauce is made with Carolina Reaper peppers, which are some of the hottest peppers in the world. I've only been able to handle a few drops of this sauce at a time. It's definitely not for the faint of heart!
