Simple test
Cat's Eye✓ Verified Purchase•March 25, 2024
My 5 stars is just for the fact that this is a simple test as I do not have results back yet, and there is no way to prove right or wrong when I do. This test itself is very easy to do, noninvasive, and takes minutes to prepare to send out. You just basically answer a couple of simple questions on a card and insert 10 to 15 hairs into the envelope they provide and stick it in the mail and wait. I got this just as a curiosity thing to see if my cat is sensitive to a couple of things he seems to avoid or may be intolerant to. For someone who wants to try this type of test, I would recommend it for the ease of gathering the sample.
Comprehensive Report

I had sent this off and didn't get notified of them receiving it. Then it was kind of a hassle to follow up with it so I didn't get back to it for a while. The post office must have lost my original submission. However I was able to take another hair sample and using the information fro my original registration of the kit and the information on their website and resubmit it without having to contact anyone. lol I hate calling people so it was nice to do it all via email after I sent in the replacement sample.
Anyway this time it all went smoothly and I had the report within 24 hours of being notified they had received the sample.
The report is very comprehensive and covers food, food additives and even environmental factors. I was happy my boy didn't have too many things but Beef was a big one so that's easy enough to eliminate from his diet. All in all, well worth it. I'm not sure of the 100% accuracy of this method but I do believe it's a very helpful tool to discover allergens that affect your pet

Hope when the vet has given up

My cat has struggled for years with health issues. He has FIV, is severely underweight, has constant respiratory issues, and has lately started pulling his fur out. My vet has all but given up on him and even hinted at euthanasia. Nope. Since that discussion I have found a holistic vet who had helped my other cat but sadly my boy hasn't shown improvements.
I'm so glad to have come across this test. Because it truly is a last ditch effort for my boy that I refuse to give up on.
As others have pointed out the directions online and in the box were contradictory and I never really figured out the purpose of the flea comb. My thought was to comb the fur where you were going to clip so as to make sure that it was your cat's fur and not another pets. I clipped his fur, put it in the specimen wallet (smaller envelope) and then put that in the bigger envelope. I mailed it out on January 3rd. It took forever to get to the company and I believe this is due to it being mailed back via media mail-no rush whatsoever. I received an email on January 18th that they had received it and on January 19th they had emailed me the results.
The pdf they send you can be printed out (his was 32 pages) or saved and is very informative. They explain that what they test for are sensitivities and not allergies, and the differences. They explain what they test for and after your results they explain what they recommend to do next to help your pet. This Advanced test gave results for Food sensitivities, Additive sensitivities, environmental sensitivities, a Nutrition sensitivity analysis, and finally a Metal and Minerals Sensitivity. Each of these categories has two sub-categories- High and Moderate Reactivity. As a note, I also got the Basic test and the Basic test does not include the Nutrition Sensitivity Analysis or the Metals and Minerals Sensitivity. For the extra $10 I would recommend this Advanced test.
Wow, seeing his results was really a shocker. No wonder he hasn't been getting better. He has reactivity to kelp, apple, potatoes, wheat flour, spinach, and on. And shockingly I found many of these items in his current diet! One of the results I found quite insightful though was the Nutrition Sensitivities results. It showed that he was high in iron and potassium. And I can confirm that I've been giving him iron supplements to help-little did I know that I was actually harming him! As a note I will add that my other cat's tests results were completely different (see that review).
This test has been most amazingly insightful. I think it is an invaluable tool for a pet parent to help get to the bottom of mystery illnesses. And I do want to emphasize that this test is a tool-the pet owner/parent/etc still has to do the work of eliminating the contaminates from their pet's environment.
I'm so grateful to have been given the chance to try this and am looking forward to seeing how my boy does once I figure out a way to eliminate all the things he's sensitive to. We still have a long road but I'm more optimistic now than I have been.

Updated - results for my cat arrived
Ammit L. Brooks✓ Verified Purchase•February 9, 2024
Update - once my results were received Jan 18, my results came back Jan 19! Overall it took about a month for everything (me sending it out, waiting, and results).
I attached some of the results for my cat, who is 11. The results were interesting, but not super relevant to me because she has never had any serious issues. I did find the mention of a guar gum sensitivity to be interesting/relevant. She had a long period of occasional vomiting that resolved after a food switch. The food that caused the vomiting had guar gum, and the new food doesn't and she rarely throws up now. Very interesting and makes me consider the validity/accuracy of the test.
As for the report itself, it is about 30 pages and includes lots of info on how to use/interpret the results, and what this could all mean for your pet.
If your pet has some sensitivities you'd like to validate, this could be a useful tool in conjunction with testing/guidance from your vet!
