For those of you who truly want to be free of subscriptions and even a monthly internet plan yet still would like to have a semblance of entertainment and would like to watch some local news and a collection of other channels for free, this device is your solution. It was easy to setup. Simple connect the HDMI or video cable to your TV, connect an antenna to the device, turn it on and let it scan and find all of the channels that are available in your location. Oh, don't forget the AAA batteries for the remote control.

The number of channels available to you will really depend on the number of broadcasters in your vicinity. It's best to live within a reasonable distance of a major city. I first set this up in my home in the woods and of course, got no reception. Once I moved it to my other residence, closer to once of the largest cities in country, it was like having cable TV service. The picture quality will vary depending on the strength of the broadcaster and the position of your antenna. Some stations pictures were absolutely beautiful while others were not that great. The antenna that I am using and not so great so that is clearly a factor affecting the performance. The unit can also nicely play videos that you can put into via a USB thumb drive. The quality was very good. The recording and playback functionality was good.

I bought a box that was $20 more expensive from a Big box store and the composite AV output to my CRT televisions looked dark, saturated, and pink. I returned and bought this product, and it works flawlessly! Bring able to play movies, music, and tv shows from USB is a nice touch.

It works great as an ota receiver. I don't care for the 24 hour clock that can't be changed to a12 hour clock. It can't be turned off either. Daylight saving time is manual. The USB port is on the front, if you want to record programs you will have a cord hanging in front. It should be in back. It works great with the HDMI port.
Programming is easy, I get the same channels I get on my spare TV. I tuned at 720 dpi. I bought it for my projector. I connected it through my stereo for a great home theater

TV antenna converter boxes have been around for some time since the FCC changed TV from analog to digital channels. I have been using these boxes for many years used in conjunction with a DVD recorder that I own. I have never used Mediasonic Homeworx before, but some other brands seem to be prone to fail every couple of years.
The way I use this converter is to run my outside antenna to an A/B splitter. One side goes directly to my TV that still has a coaxial connection and the other side goes to this Mediasonic converter. The RCA output is then fed to my DVD recorder with the channel I wanted selected on the converter. The recorder output is then sent to the RCA jacks on the TV allowing me to monitor my recording. Using the splitter allows me to power down the converter and recorder when not in use even though the converter only uses eight watts. The converter takes up a small footprint, is well vented, and lightweight.
I love the included remote and is a good upgrade from the others. The scan function on this unit does an excellent job of capturing the stations in my area. Most reception problems are due to the quality of the antenna and how it's positioned. If you intend to record using external memory, don't bother with a flash drive and issues they may present. I have used an external hard drive which you can then move over to your computer to further save or watch your recordings. It's best to invest the time in reading the enclosed manual and checking out the features available to get the results you want from this converter.
Many people are learning today that most newer TVs do not include an internal turner and are basically monitors like those for your computers. If you're like many of us, we are cutting the cable cord due to increasing costs, and it may be necessary for you to have this converter to capture these free over the air broadcasts.
