Impressed. It works on my uneven and hilly yard
Amazon Customer✓ Verified PurchaseMarch 7, 2024
The media could not be loaded. I bought it to do the areas in my yard where i don't like taking my zero-turn...too hilly. It handles those hills with no problem. I just did a section that is was recovered from pasture. No problem. Navigation works great. Traction is good. Very, very quiet. I am not easily impressed, but this impresses me.
Be Aware, 2 Different Luba 2 5000 Models
Nick Adams✓ Verified PurchaseDecember 23, 2023
I did not yet use the unit. Just wanted folks to be aware that there are 2 versions of the Luba 2 AWD 5000. I purchased the 5000 when I actually need the 5000H. The 5000H is set up for higher cutting capabilities, up to 4" where as the standard 5000 will give you a max cut height of 2.75". If you look at the Mammotion web site the listing is very clear and gives you the option to choose between the 2, the Amazon listing...not so much. I'm giving this a 5 star as of now because I've seen way more good reviews than bad and it would seem setup means a lot for the end operational result. I am attempting to return this unit for the 5000H. We'll see if customer service affects my current rating?? Hope this makes it easier for someone else.
Great mower but takes some trial and error.

Arrived much faster than expected so I didn't have to wait to play with my new toy. I've been testing it out for a week and I'm very impressed. It easily tackles mud and ruts in my uneven yard. The quality of cut is better than my riding mower so no complaints there.

I put the base station and charger about 100 feet from my house. I've got a camper connection out there so I could power it. It has no issues with rtk connection. I setup my first zone to test it's limits. It's 500 feet away on the other side of my house next to a welded wire fence. Signal strength from the base station was fine. Seems like a big improvement over version 1.

Setting up zones was easy enough. Just steer it around with my phone while walking beside it. Maps perfectly to where it went so you can get very close to fences and ditches (note on this later). No go zones are done in the same way. If zones don't overlap you need to add paths to connect them. Just drive it inside one zone near it's border, select make a path the drive into the next zone. If you're going through a gate try to make it centered. It drives to the path then tank turns into it. My path was close to the edge and it would bump into the fence causing it to get stuck.

So it does have some... I don't want to call them issues, uh, unexpected behavior. If you map it too close to a wall it can get a little off angle and bump into the wall. It will then back up and swing out wide then try to come back into it's cut line. It will then drive right into the wall, bump again, rinse and repeat, slowly moving down the wall. I realized the GPS is over the rear wheels and the bump sensor is in the front. It's trying to line up the rear wheels with the path so when it's angles into a wall it will bump into it. To fix this I modified the areas to stay a little further from walls. It will require a little more string trimming but not the end of the world.

Some other things of note.
If you add a new zone over an existing path it will not be happy. Delete the path and make a new one if it's still needed.
If two zones overlap it will have trouble moving from one zone to another. It can get stuck in the shared space.

They are releasing software updates which make it better and fix bugs. It was almost unusable on day 1. A software update was pushed on my second day of ownership that fixed many things and activated the camera navigation.
Exceeding expectations in some areas - needs improving but OTA updates seem to be coming

I am giving this product 5 stars as there are no comparable products on the market as of now. I waited for years for iRboto (the makers of Rumba) to come up with a wire-free mower but that project seems to be if not dead, not going anywhere.

LUBA 2 is a real deal and it needs work in both software as well as the hardware area.

Setting it up was very easy.

RTK transceiver
============
I made the mistake of installing the RTK transceiver too close to the wall. It worked OK but the GPS drift has become immediately obvious after setting up a few zones. So install it as far away from obstructions as possible. I simply moved it to the outer railing of my deck and it seems to have improved the precision drastically.

Charging port
===========
If you have a concrete driveway and thinking of installing a charger there (makes the most sense to keep it relatively dirt and bug-free, as well as easy for docking), there are no anchors included for concrete so you have t come up with some washers and concrete tap screws - not the end of the world but would have been nice if they included the factory set. (Hey Mammotion, perhaps come up with a kit and send it to me - will test out out for ya ;) ). Otherwise, it comes with long plastic screws that can be used to anchor the charger to the ground. I would be concerned about UV deterioration in the mid-term of these screws.

The charging base has a slot and electrical connection for the RTK as well so if you choose to install it there, yo won't need to use two separate power supplies, which is nice. Unfortunately at my location, I needed to cover a large backyard, and installing the RTK by the charger wouldn't have given me good coverage. Besides, adding RTK to the charging base slot would only work over dirt, not concrete - something Mammotion may want to think about. The charging base is a relatively thin plastic and I am a bit concerned about its durability, especially when installed above dirt as over time from UV exposure it will likely become brittle. An aluminum base would be an improvement here.

LUBA 2 charges surprisingly fast! It charged from 15% to 100% I want to say within an hour - wasn't able to get the exact time as I wasn't expecting such fast performance. I was moving a large and complex area and it had to charge twice - nice to have fast charging for situations like this.

Planning your first cut
=================
App is pretty intuitive. Basically, you would "Add" an area and LUBA 2 will prompt you to drive it to the starting point, where you will start mapping your zone. Simply steer using on-screen circular "joysticks" on your phone. Left control is for Forward/Reverse thrust, and right control is turning. Simply drive your LUBA 2 around the perimeter of your first cut site and once you complete the circuit, you have the option to save it. Once saved, you can apply numerous presets and customizations, cut height, pattern, etc. You can also set-up a schedule against the specific area. If the battery drains below 15%, LUBA 2 will mark the spot on your app and will navigate to the charger (See "Planning channels" below).

Planning Channels
==============
No one wants a runaway mower or for it to cross places you don't want it to cross. Just like adding cut or no-go sites, you can drive LUBA2 to a site and create a connection (called Channel), to another site or the charger. It was fascinating to watch LUBA 2 coming back to the base to recharge. It will drive to the base, will do a zero turn, and back into it slowly but confidently. The voice prompt will alert you that it is now charging. It will also need channels if you want for LUBA 2 to hop between the areas for moving. Just be sure to create a channel back to the charger from each site, so that LUBA 2 can come back for a juice break if it needs to.

No-Go zones
==========
This one is pretty important. Having used Roomba and LUBA 2 having bumper as well as visual object detection and avoidance, I was under the impression that it would automatically stay away from the fences. On my very first test run, LUBA 2 got stuck its wheel on the channel post I use to protect my young trees from deer. It broke a piece of "rim" on the wheel. Mammotion was very responsive and they are shipping me a replacement. While this didn't affect the operation, no doubt there is unnecessary friction from the sharp broken rim and this may degrade the cut time/range. But I digress - absolutely do go ahead and set up the no-go zones around large walls or obstacles where LUBA 2 can get caught or get stuck. Adding a no-go zone works very similarly to the Site planning. Simply drive your mower to the
cut area, tap to start mapping the go zone, and drive around the obstacle you want to exclude. It will create a yellow area for the no-go zone.

Hills
====
One of the main reasons I purchased this mower is because I have an impossible hill behind my house that is a pain to cut with a ride-on or a walk-behind mower. LUBA 2 is amazing! It climbs the steep hills like a champ. Just make sure to remove obstacles or cut the grass in the area if you have tall grass.

Cutting
======
You can start cutting manually by selecting the site (optionally customizing before each cut), or on a set schedule. The app lets you see where exactly LUBA 2 on a diagram with time remaining, and percentage remaining. But here is the cool feature - you can tap into the dual stereo cameras of LUBA 2 to live-stream what it "sees" to your iPhone screen. Pretty cool and useful actually if it gets stuck somewhere, or has trouble moving around, and want to see what is going on.

Shortcomings
===========
I think Mammotion needs to improve in the above areas I mentioned was a problem. Wheels need to be made from a sturdier material than plastic, base station also. This is an outdoor product, exposed to elements and I am worried about the long-term exposure of plastic to the sun.

Wish list
=======
LUBA 2 would benefit from AI integration for obstacle detection and even the mowing plan. It simply spends too much time on trying to to the perimeter. It basically used up 50% of the battery on the perimeter cutting. If you have many small areas this will be an issue. You can disable the perimeter cut or reduce the number of passes (the default is 3 passes!). Even with the single pass, the battery was drained quickly and it will do it every time it cuts the same site.

I wish there was a way to exclude some areas from cutting with a pattern and just do a perimeter. If you have a very narrow path, it is painful to watch it try to go back and forth on a 2-foot wide area to do a pattern. Waste of battery life and a huge increase in mowing time.

I would love to see more battery life. It is light enough to have a second battery pack and the extra weight would probably help the grip.

I wish the live video had audio. I was actually surprised it doesn't.

Speaking of video, I wish Mammotionhas provided a way to capture the video (and audio) live stream other than their app so that one could feed it to an NVR. Having a recording of a video would be a nice feature so that you can later go back to see any trouble areas or indeed if someone walks and damages or steals your LUBA 2. This should be easy to do and I suspect such a feed already exists.

More to come...
============
I am still learning and evaluating the LUBA 2 mower and I intend to update this review as I learn more. As of now, I feel like it as great potential to replace my main mowers and to do a very time-consuming task.
Love it

The media could not be loaded. Ive been wanting to get a robot mower but all the options with wires were not for me. I have a fully fenced in acre with lots of fruit trees and plantings.

I had my eye on this robot and when they came out with version 2 I went for it.

Setup was a bit tricky, there are a few bugs and quirks, but I'm very satisfied after the first month or so of owning it.

It's out in the dark right now, mowing a 1/4 acre permaculture style food forest with about 50 plants. To be fair, between the challenging obstacles and recharging time, it takes Luba 2 almost the whole day to now just this zone, but it's mowing and I don't have to, so that's a win in my book.

The whole property is mapped to 5 zones. Aside from the one very challenging zone, Luba 2 can mow 2 of the other zones in a day. The other zones also have fruit tree obstacles, maybe a dozen or so each zone. Over the course of a week my whole lawn can be mowed.

I'd recommend the robot, just be sure to join the Facebook group for support. If you are tech savvy you've got it.

I subtracted one star for some of the software bugs/quirks and setup issues - but it's a solid product. The machine itself is amazingly well built. Updates are rolling out weekly software-wise and the Mammotion team has shared a well thought out software roadmap, so I expect to update my review to five stars within a month or two.
