Sturdy, needs a charcoal taste filter

Great filter, but the flavor did need significant improvement. I purchased a Katadyn charcoal adapter and was not disappointed.

The plastic body leaves me a little hesitant to state it feels solid, but it truly does regardless of the flex when pumping water. The design makes it seem relatively simple to replace the plastic part if it ever were broken, but i wouldn't go out of my way to try it. The actual internal mechanism is quite solid.

It is a little heavy, but to be expected from a mostly metal filter that feels as reliable as this one.
I like the idea of life straws but it seems more ...

Used my friend's on two camping trips and decided I needed to buy one for myself. Whether you're camping or preparing for emergency, this could save you. I don't think it's enough to just have a lot of water stored up in your home. You never know what could happen to your supply and I consider water the #1 priority in my preparedness. The ability to go get more water when the faucet isn't working and the FEMA lines are too long is more important than how many rounds of ammunition you have.

There are some less expensive alternatives but I am unwilling to risk it for my #1 preparedness priority. I like the idea of life straws but it seems more convenient to me to be able to pump for a few minutes and have a few liters of drinking water wherever I want to take it. Plus this has a much longer lifespan.
Love it!

Owned the Lifestraw, Sawyer, Lifesaver Bottle, and now the Katadyn Pocket Filter, and I must say, this Katadyn is my favorite.

Life Straw is compact, lightweight, and inexpensive, good for survival.
Sawyer is a good bang for the buck
Lifesaver Bottle filters out viruses as well, bit bulky and slow flowing, little pricey.
Katadyn Pocket Filter really is quality, good flow, simple and easy to fill up your water containers.
-It is expensive, but you are getting your hard earned cash out of it, because this filter is built strong, comes with a 20yr warranty, and water is one of the necessities needed to survive, why go cheap on your own safety and well being? It is a little heavy for a filter, but then again, when you really need water, are you going to trust your $20 plastic filter? Or are you going to trust you expensive aluminum filter. Ill carry the extra 1lb.
Compact, robust, simple and a good to go water filtration system

Although I have not tested or used this yet, I am confident about it because of the quality of construction, the compact design, and the many very positive reviews that I have read on it. So, this filter is a keeper for camping, hiking, boating fun, or for any other time where you may really require potable water such as during an emergency power outage etc...

I do have a strong backround in Environmental Science relating specifically to water and know this arena well enough to state that a system like this is one of those must have items for anyone concerned about their clean water needs in any environment, I highly recommend it.
Great for our current needs, perhaps difficult for future goals.

This product arrived quickly and undamaged.

My wife and I like to hike and camp. As such, we often encounter the need to refresh/refill our camelbacks (water pouches) or water storage apparatuses in very remote places. This product does a great job at delivering a safe feed of water to our bag and water apparatuses. The only down fall is the water transfer is slow and the ceramic filter needs cleaned often (perhaps just a factor of water supply). However, for now, this product fits our every need and is relatively light weight, which is important when hiking long distances.

The only down side that we might face is in the winter months. Logically, this product needs to be kept above freezing at all times or you will risk any moisture left in the filter's pore to freeze, expand, and thus crack your ceramic filter, rendering it useless. As such, perhaps carrying it close to your warm back in a frame-pack while hiking is a great idea, we just have not figured it out a method for camping since you wouldn't want to carrying it on your person at all times. Just a little fuel for thought.

In either case, this product is great for our Spring, Summer, and Fall trips when boiling water for sterilization is not an option. On a side note, though we do trust this filters abilities, we still boil the water when camping via we have the means to easily do so and there is no reason to take a chance in that case. However, for our current needs, this product works great.

We hope this review helps.
