So far, so good.

Early review that will be updated once I have tested out the airbrush(waiting for adapters).

My main concern was that this would be a refurbished brush as many reviews posted over the last 2 years have said they got clearly used brushes. When I purchased this last week it was being offered by Amazon itself and not a different retailer. It showed up in only 2 days as I live quite close to a fulfillment center.

The airbrush came in the standard heavy cardstock box(as all Sotar brushes do) which was shrinkwrapped. The brush itself and extra parts were also shrinkwrapped again so that they did not come loose from the foam insert in the box which I felt was a nice touch. The brush has no cosmetic flaws that I can see, and no paint dried and hiding in nooks and crannies as previous buyers have reported. It did have a thin oily layer on the metal, but that doesn't seem all that strange as precision metal items are oiled to prevent oxidation and corrosion when first manufactured. This is likely because the brush has the black anodized finish instead of being nickel chrome plated like standard airbrushes. The paperwork does not list a serial number for the brush but I don't know how well Badger keeps up on serializing them, especially if Amazon is doing large bulk orders to offer these discounts on them. That's the only "red flag" I'd say I have about the brush being new. Not a single scratch on it. I will update this review after trying it out.

The Sotar 2020 is reviewed as a highly-regarded airbrush and I can see why. It's incredibly fine-detail, metal in all the parts that matter, disassembles significantly for cleanup, and is relatively intuitive to use.

Be warned though, it's not a grab-and-go brush, you will want to practice first on a more 'idiot-proof' airbrush.

If I had one complaint, it's that the needle must be removed through the back of the brush, which can make cleaning it a bit more interesting than it might be otherwise.
Great brush but be careful on parts

Really good air brush with fast shipping from Amazon.
Paints very fine and detailed and atomizes paint very well, with smooth action on the trigger and great feel in my hand.

BE VERY CAREFUL when disassembling for cleaning! The nozzle (part # 20-106 or 20-107 or 20-108 on the manual) is not screwed in / threaded like many other airbrushes. It is completely loose, and if you remove the tip covers or disassemble your brush you will LOSE IT like I did.
Luckily I found it on the floor after 1/2 an hour searching.

My only (minor) issue is that it does not come with an adapter for a standard 1/8 air hose (need to buy this separately). I guess they want you to buy the badger branded compressor as well?
Amazing pinpoint precision. A must have for model hobbyists.

I used to think that I would never be able to paint small details on my models with an airbrush. I generally used my Patriot for base coating and painting large areas. I tried the Sotar because it was on sale at an amazing price and I have heard so many good things about it. I was stunned at being immediately able to paint lines, small points on a model, details that I normally reserved for a detail brush were now no longer off limits and with a minimum of effort. It is that precise. Don't get this as your sole airbrush as you get precision at the cost of area coating. You should get a standard airbrush (like the Patriot which I LOVE) and then switch to your Sotar when you want to get into the details of your model.
I had no idea that he had just bought a very nice, well known brand

2014 Christmas gift for my son. I had no idea that he had just bought a very nice, well known brand, air brush costing almost twice as much as this one. This set on his shelf until a couple months ago. He told me, felt bad that he had never used it. So, he sparked it up.

Last week, he told me, Dad ... that air brush, the Badger Solar you got me for Christmas ... at first, wasn't sure ... used it for a week or so ... went back to the other one ... used it for 3 days ... then, back to the Solar. WoW Dad, what a difference ..

He told me, other than to spray cleaner through it, to be sure it does not clog, he has not touched the other air brush.

He swaps tips and such on the Solar and says he just loves it. He uses it to paint War Hammer Miniatures as well as other miniatures of that type. He tells me the control and fine detail that the Solar offers him is amazing. His miniatures have taken prizes for best paint and design in competition here in the Bay Area. He knows a thing or two about painting.

He has suggested this air brush to several of his friends and associates.

Guess it is a hit.
