I tried boiled linseed oil - that smell nearly killed me. Then tried Scotts Liquid Gold (which i love) but i fear it won't last long and this is not a project I want to repeat even on a annual basis due to the sheer sizes of the Vigas and the amounts throughout the house.
For now i did 10 Vigas which are 14 feet long and 12+ inches in diameter and I used up 1.75 bottle with one layer. That is a very do-able cost at approx $10 a room. I use a brush as wiping it on is not an option as the rags get stuck on the wood splinters.
This product is light V. boiled linseed oil and no smell unless you put your nose right on it.
I'm going to wait a while now and see how it performs on these very dry Vigas and then hopefully my search is over and can proceed with the entire house.
