I bought this to drill holes for solar powered mole deterrent spikes that are 1-1/4 inch diameter and must be installed about 5 inches into the ground. The auger worked well. Drilled perfect holes without damaging the lawn. I gave it three stars because the idiot who designed it didn't put a square finish on the end of the auger that fits into the drill. AS a result when you hit a patch of hard ground, the auger spins in the drill. This auger produces a lot of torque.
Works better than I expected!

I had no trouble at all drilling a series of holes into our yard for sulphur and iron for our oak tree. Our soil is dense fine clay, and this went in without any trouble at all. I used a Ryobi cordless drill, set for low speed & high torque.
Good quality auger with a big caveat.

This otherwise well made auger for drilling holes in the ground comes with a big caveat. The top of the spiral blade had a sharp corner that could lacerate your hand if it came in contact with the auger while it was turning in the drill. I was about to return it but decided to use a file to round off the edge, making it a lot safer.
If you have your own beach umbrella, you need this!

Perfect for drilling holes in the sand to put your umbrella deep enough not to blow away. I saw the hotel and condo personnel using these to quickly set up lines of chairs and umbrellas and decided to get one for my own chairs and umbrella. It works great with a cordless drill.
Wrong size.

Ordered a 1 3/4 " auger. Received what appeared to be correct per packaging. After using, realized it was only a 1 1/4" diameter. Made it difficult to install termite bait stations which are 1 3/4", the reason I bought it.
