In this price range you can't find a better made hand axe. I was so impressed with my first purchase, that I ordered a second one. Something I especially look for as a sign of quality is how the handle is fitted to the axe head ("hung" on the head). These Truper hand axes have all the quality signs; axe head hung straight, handle well fitted to the axe "eye", solid mating between the handle and head (no gaps). I can report that these axes hold up to hard use. My family and I use these for axe throwing, their lighter weight making them popular among smaller family members. No chips, splits, loose handles or cracks so far (and not every throw is perfect in my family).

(Edit: am surprised at the critical reviews of this product and have none of the problems described. I'm an axe collector, with about 60 axes/hatchets in 30 yrs of collecting. A couple things I've learned: 1. Rarely is an axe sharp on arrival, you have to sharpen them 2. A lightweight hatchet like this 1.25 lb Truper is not intended for splitting logs 3. Never abuse your tools, axes especially, beating on this hatchet is not what it is designed for.)

I usually don't write reviews unless I have something negative to say. But this axe is something else, it feel great in the hand, its well balanced and all around is a must have for any smaller wood splitting tasks. If I had to pick one con to this product it would be the grain orientation on the handle, it's just not lined up quite right, but even with that the handle is sturdy and doesn't come with that annoying lacquer finish. 10/10 would recommend!

A lot of fun to play with but dulls quickly. Let me put it this way, if you split wood occasionally for the fireplace or when camping this ax is probably perfect for you. If you are starting a business that requires wood splitting you might want to go with Husqvarna. I rarely need to split wood, honestly I just wanted a double headed ax to use while camping because they look cool. The handle is very substantial, as is the whole ax honestly but the handle is made from solid hickory and it has a nice wedge that holds it all together. I have never worried about the head flying off or the handle splitting into a thousand pieces like with some. The head is easy to sharpen and for its size easy to wield. The reason I did not score it better is because of how quickly the blade is dulled. Something else worth mentioning is that it is a big heavy hunk of ax, it would not make a good gift for a child or small person. 3 1/2 pounds maybe does not sound like much but when you add the handle to that and actually start swinging it gets heavy quick.
