Glass is luck of the draw and I was not lucky!
Primeaddict•September 22, 2017
If this product was consistent in the glass they include it would be a 5 start product. But this cost way too much to have to go out and get your own aesthetically pleasing glass. The glass I received was comprised of some really odd large pieces and then small pieces and then TONS of tiny shards and slivers, and as you can see from my photo it didn't include the colors shown/advertised. That's not fair. My daughter was so excited to do this we used it anyways, but I'm disappointed. We did this as part of our Leaf unit for Kindergarten, as we homeschool.
That's my big grievance with the kit, that aside... it went really well. I sprayed the mold with nonstick spray. I finished the glass to get all the dust off of it from the bag. When it came time to do the letters I had no issue not making the square indentations from the stamps. You simply don't press them down so far so the base goes into the cement, not sure what people expected to happen when doing them. I think it turned out great. I did use more water then 2 cups to get it to where it was spreadable, then I used the edge of a paper towel to dot everywhere water pooled up, it wasn't much. Use a bucket from the dollar store to mix it in, and mix it outside of your home because of the dust. Hope this helps!

a dull fluorescent yellow

I've ordered six mosaic leaf stepping stone kits in the past. I had made stones for two sister for three different families. It had been several years since I ordered them and assumed the stained glass would be of similar colors, or at least in tasteful colors. Initially, I ordered two kits, but didn't open them for a while. I didn't have the opportunity to use them as soon as I thought. I ordered a third recently. When it arrived, the bag of glass was open and much of it was broken into little bits. Also, the colors were not even close to the originals. I understand the same colors aren't always available, but the selection was not pretty- dark browns, a dull fluorescent yellow, and a not-so-pretty green. I was very disappointed. I decided to open the two I ordered several months ago because I thought I could just use some of the glass from those kits. However, the colors were consistent with the browns, etc. Unfortunately, I can send only one back, and I won't be ordering it again. I'm very disappointed because I was adding a third matching stone for a third little sister.
Fun leaf mosaic kit.

This is a fun little kit. We got enough glass to make our kids' handprints and then another one. We used 2.5 cups of water, and we mixed the concrete in the form. While that dries enough to decorate, 45-60 minutes, we plan the glass design.
It takes a little longer to dry and decorate this way, but the stone seems to be more solid as a result. The first step we made, mixed with just 2 cups of water, was mixed in a plastic container and it went into the mold in a clumpy mess. Most of the mix stayed in the mixing container, despite our efforts to transfer it to the mold with the mixing stick, and that step broke after drying.
We fixed it with quikcrete, and re-applied stones where necessary with E-6000. I recommend mixing the concrete in the mold, if your kids can't wait a little while for the extra water to dry enough for decorating.

Easy to Do, Fun Craft, High Quality Plaster, You'll Need a Bucket for Mixing Though
Olivia Stabler•April 10, 2017
My 5 year old daughter and I did this project together and it was pretty easy. In the kit, you get instructions on the back of the cover image, plastic tray leaf mold, stepping stone plaster mix, letter/number stamps, stir stick, and colored glass and gem pieces. Note that you will need a bucket to mix the stepping stone plaster in, which I didn't expect when we started the project since I didn't see other reviews I read mention this. Immediately after dumping the plaster into the tray, you'll need to rinse the bucket with a garden hose before the plaster dries in the bucket.
I have attached a photo of the instructions, what the plaster consistency should look like, and our finished project (still in tray mold). To mix the plaster, dump the mix in and add about 2 cups of water all at once and stir with the stir stick. Keep adding water by teaspoon and mixing until it's the consistency of brownie batter. Then dump it into the leaf mold tray. We found that we must've added a little too much water because when we first tried to do her handprint, the plaster wouldn't hold the impression well. If you add too much water, take a paper towel and press it gently on top to absorb some of the excess water. We had to do this twice before the impression would stick. You'll have to use a putty knife to smooth the plaster before doing your impression and then again to smooth around it.To add the glass pieces/gems, just gently press them into the plaster just below the surface so they'll hold when the plaster hardens. You'll want to wait about an hour before you stamp the letters so the plaster is more conducive to it. It will need to harden overnight before you gently remove it from the tray.
Overall, I felt the project was quite easy, water consistency aside, and was fun to do together. You will not receive as many colorful pieces of glass as you see in the product photo. We received plenty of pieces, but they were mostly the same blue, green, yellow, orange, and white hues throughout, so I do wish more colored pieces had been included like the image shown. The stamps also left rectangular impressions around the letters that I couldn't smooth out. For the price, it makes a beautiful craft and would be a great Mother's Day gift. The quality of the finished stone is beautiful and won't break easily taking it out of the tray and seems able to withstand weather in the garden.

Good Quality, Easy Instructions and Re-usuable!
therovingeye•October 12, 2016
This was a weekend project with my son (age 6). Everything inside the box was nicely organized, and the instructions were easy to follow. I did the cement mixing, but he did the rest! Our project has been outside braving the elements for 2 months now, and has held up well (see picture). The mold is re-usable as are the letter stencils. We had a lot of extra stones too.
