Oh my gosh, this is terrific. I did not have a break but a wound that I was going to wound care for. I was so sick and tired of taking sponge baths and needed to have a shower where I could try to wash away my worries. I was venting to the wound care specialist and she told me about this. I wish she had mentioned much sooner. This fit tightly and prevented water from the wound area and I was able to feel almost human again. It does feel very tight at the opening which is as it should but for some it may be too tight a fit. It was worth the tight feeling in exchange for the shower.
Reasonable price, very effective, reusable, recommended.

I bought this on my sister's recommendation. She's had foot and ankle surgeries and found this type of bag very useful for keep her dressings clean and dry. I also found it easy and effective. I recommend that you take the time to choose the correct size for your body part. I selected the below the knee lower leg bag because I've already lost nearly 3 inches of my original adult height at only age 64! The knee high version would have come way up over my knee. Especially when wet, I think any excess bulk becomes a slip or trip hazard.. So, take the time measure accurately. and order accordingly.
I carefully towel-dried the outside and hung to dry thoroughly, being extremely careful not to rip the gasket material that makes it waterproof at your leg. I believe it will last through several showers, at least until my doc says it's okay to get wet. if you should be so unlucky to face such a hassle., it might even last through two or more foot "events." Be a pal, and don't toss it out. You never know when family or friends might need it. You can be their hero!
Yes, it seems pricey for a PVC bag, but very much worth the expense, even for thrifty me, tempted as I was to try a garbage bag with rubber bands and/or waterproof tape. I applied my first rule of defense against aging: if a onetime expense can resolve a problem for a reasonable cost, I don't even think about it anymore. Just spend the money and save myself the DIY hassles.
Note: it was a little tricky pulling the bulky dressing through gasket, which fits snugly against your leg, like a drum skin. Go gently so you will not rip it. BTW, my procedure was L&R bunionectomies on my left foot. After a couple of days I'm getting about with less trouble than at first.
I learned the hard way that I should have planned better for mobility and shower options. My sister was waiting for an acquaintance to return her knee scooter/walker, so it was not available to me. To get one with insurance would require a minimum 2 days for pre approval, by which time I can do without it. What's to approve? I had foot surgery, I can't walk, what's the problem? You can easily order one from amazon, but I didn't want to spend $100+ on something my health insurance would cover if only I'd been thinking clearly enough to arrange it in advance. I wonder if they would have paid for the bag too? Good luck.

My review of the Carex Cast Protector, Lower Leg

I broke my ankle and had to wear a cast on my leg for about a month. I ordered this product through Amazon because none of the drugs stores (at that time) had any in stock. I had previous experience* with this product and wanted to purchase one to make bathing easier. Amazon offered (2) for less than the purchase price of *one, so I immediately ordered mine.
The product works well at keeping the water out of your cast, although it is a little cumbersome to put on and remove--due to the diaphragm that seals out the water. Moreover, I received this order from Amazon rather expeditiously, so I was able to use the product almost at the start of having my cast put on.
The actual product is pretty good, but I'm glad I got two instead of one, because the first one tore after removing it from my cast after about a week of use. The roughness of the cast was partially responsible, but I also felt that the diaphragm was not as durable as I had expected it to be. When I started using the second one however, I thought I'd try putting a long loose sock on first (such as a male's diabetic tube sock) that would cover all of my cast before putting the cast cover on. The sock (albeit difficult to stretch over the cast initially) really helped extend the life of the product by preventing whatever sharp edges that were on the cast from tearing through the diaphragm! It also made it a lot easier to put on and remove the cover each time. Taking this extra step actually prevented me from tearing the second cast cover.
PROS:
Amazon delivered this product within (2) days after ordering it.
Carex Cast Protector did what it intended to do by keeping my cast dry while showering (although, I recommend using a large sock to cover the cast before putting on the Carex Cast Protector.)
Recommend getting the two for the price of one offer so you'll have an extra, should the diaphragm get torn during use.
The total cost of the products I ordered were very reasonable.
CONS:
Carex Cast Protector's diaphragm is a little flimsy and will tear easily due to any roughness of the cast.
Carex Cast Protector is cumbersome to use, and would be difficult for frail or arthritic people to use.
Overall, I recommend this product!
*A WORD OF CAUTION IF PURCHASING THIS PRODUCT ELSEWHERE:
If you are offered this product through an *orthopedic clinic (e.g. Ventura Orthopedic), I recommend waiting and purchasing one through Amazon or a drug store, otherwise, you'll end up paying more than double the price through the clinic. Not knowing any better the first time, I purchased mine at an orthopedic clinic for a whopping $28.00, only to later discover the exact product and brand being sold at the local drug store for only $11.00--plus, keep in mind that this purchase may or may not be covered under your insurance plan.

Does exactly what it is supposed to do!

This cast cover did not let any water touch my cast. Very tight fit around the top, but did not feel overly uncomfortable. Was not heavy or bulky. Because of the tightness of the ring, it is much easier if you have help to put it on. However, it can be done by yourself as long as there are no other issuesn like not being able to reach your feet for whatever reason. Very important that you dry off the top rubber ring before you remove it after your shower. Bonus, once your covered foot has been in your warm shower, the cover acts as an insulator and keeps your toes warm for a while as you dry off the rest of you.
Great product
