Don't buy this item! I did and regret it. Seemed all right to start with, but then fell off the wall because the hanging mechanism is poorly designed. The whole shelf sits on a piece of particle board that you attach to the wall. The shelf itself has a piece of particle board that slides down on top of the wall piece. But the particle board on the shelf cannot bear the weight of the shelf (which is heavy to start with) and your CDs. Half-full, the particle board mounting piece on the back of the unit came apart.

I bought two to provide the extra capacity I needed. Easy to assemble. had one minor scratch as delivered that I covered with black ink.
The ability to hang on a wall bracket made it very easy to get both at the exact same height. I just measured the distance above the floor to mount the bracket.

The instructions for this shelf are not builder-friendly. I assemble everything that comes into our house and I've never had instructions this bad. Luckily, it's all pretty self explanatory and actually very easy to put together. It's not very heavy, I was able to lift it just fine. It looks wonderful up, I am very happy with it. I also love the way it mounts to the wall, very smart way to do it. I was only given 3 pegs to hold the shelves, luckily I had some extras around the house.

It's got some heft to it, and is surprisingly super sturdy. Everything fits together so well, fits to a T. There is no tweaking or anything, except for the backboard but that is really no issue because you can just sand it down a bit for them to fit. Also, on that note, I've bought many desks and shelves online, and this one has got a super nice backboard. It's not made of flimsy paper or cheap cardboard. It's super sturdy and will not wobble/wilt. Shelf is easy to set up, but if I had any complaints, it is that the parts are not labled. But it doesn't matter much if you just do a bit of eye-balling.

I have mixed feelings about this product and would really choose 3 1/2 stars for the rating.
On the one hand: it is sturdy for the price, easy to assemble and looks nice hanging on the wall. One the other: it doesn't hold nearly what I had anticipated.
I wouldn't go so far as to call it false advertising, however you should not be expecting to fit a medium or large movie collection in here. As an example, on one shelf I have 15 standard size Blurays along w/ the Bluray box sets for Underworld, The Matrix, Star Wars and Indiana Jones. This is also w/ a CD at each end of the shelf so that the movies aren't hid by the facing.
I would say that my main gripe w/ the product is poor space utilization. Other reviews have noted that you lose a slot w/ the design of the facing pieces (absolutely true) and the other issue is that, especially when you mix Bluray and DVDs together, the shelves go in at odd heights so the unit is not used to full potential. There is a gap where you simply can not fit DVDs or Blurays - you could fill that area w/ CDs if you choose to and you haven't gone digital. Moral of the story, had the manufacturer added another 3 or 4 inches to the overall height, I would have no reason to be rambling on about this right now.
All in all, I would recommend this product to people w/ the warning that they should probably over estimate the amount of space they think they need. I really should have gone for the larger version however did not have the wall space for it and needed a solution for my storage problem.
