Our old 1970's 8 note chime, bit the dust, even after cleaning. Installed (first one was defective) without much trouble, but the chimes are not as mellow and are a bit tinny sounding. The strike plates are painted and just not the quality of the old ones. However, the exterior is much more attractive than our old model. Would have liked the stainless steel one but bought the brass one because it was a lot less expensive.

For the price, this is a good choice for a doorbell chime with tubes. While the chime is not like the resonant sound of Big Ben, the 8-tone sound does have a good ring to it--pun intended. Because the transformer did not arrive on time, the electrician was able to rig the chimes so that the unit worked regardless of the missing part. (This was only possible, I think, because it was replacing an already existing doorbell.) The picture is reasonably accurate. However, if you are color-conscious, the wood finish is a deeper shade--more walnut than maple--than the picture would suggest.

Was bought to replace the old ugly and horrible sounding door chimes that were here when we bought the house. Just love the way it looks hanging on the wall and the sounds made when they chime. Would buy again if I ever need another one.

Okay, I have an electrical, electro-mechanical, and electronics background . . . AND . . . I can tell you that the design is excellent, but the quality control may occasionally be lacking. When my unit arrived it had an issue with the tuned flat metal chime bars being shifted ( probably due to shipping and handling ) in spite of the fact that nylon shipping tape was being used to secure them in place; these flat metal bar are just barely held in position by two small (dumbbell shaped) rubber inserts, that suspend each bar against gravity. These rubber inserts are extremely easy to get shifted and cause the sound to become weak or have a thunk or clunk sound. AND they are difficult to put back in place for the average user. However, with a little patience I was able to properly reinstall them and the sound was loud enough for my 90 year old (hard of hearing) mother to hear them over her LOUD TV.
Additionally, I have attached a wiring schematic with the terminals identified as to their actual purpose. Why, because the idiot that wired my mother's house doorbell really did not know or pay attention to what he was doing.

Not cheap, but is a real doorbell with mechanical chimes. Had one of these for 35 years and it stopped working. Tried a cheapie electronic doorbell from a big box store. No thanks. Many reviews here about some parts getting jostled in shipping are correct. And a bit difficult to get everything just right. The wiring with a lighted doorbell took a little work to figure out. The end result is outstanding, sounds great, and will probably last a long time.
