You certainly won't have to worry about not hearing it! Not an elegant sounding chime--more like a child's toy. We didn't like the look of the white plastic cover (or the brand name that was printed front and center upon it), so we sprayed some bronze Rustoleum over it to make it match the rest of our fixtures, which was easy to do and worked fine.

This replaced a worn doorbell and it works well for that purpose. Easy to install and reasonably loud so you can hear it on the second floor. The only con is that I needed it to replace a doorbell mounted where the long axis was horizontal. The cover won't clip to the underlying bell mechanism in that orientation, causing it to fall off. This was easily solved by using some velcro to keep the cover in place.

As mechanical doorbells go, it works as advertised and was very easy to install. Our only disappointment, resulting in deduction of 1 star, is the "tinny sound" made by the bell. Our old mechanical doorbell had a much nicer sound - this one reminds me of a child's toy piano or xylophone. It is plenty loud enough in our home, and the two-tone sound for the front door, and single-tone sound for the side door works fine.
[Side note: If you are replacing an existing, hard-wired, mechanical doorbell you do not need to buy a separate transformer (assuming your existing transformer is still functional). If this is a "new installation," you will need to purchase the transformer as the unit cannot be wired directly to 120 vac. This is described in the instruction sheet]
