My Vitamix does a better job
Mara Cummings✓ Verified PurchaseOctober 10, 2017
I am very much into old style traditional bread baking and proper healthy food cooking, so I decided to get a mill to grind my grain right before baking. It's best to to do so not only for better flavour but also to get more nutrients and life force out of the grain and to be able to digest it best. So far I've been using a Vitamix, which was doing the job alright, but I after reading some reviews and other bread blogs and raving about the grain mills I thought I would get myself one too.

What I don't like about this machine is that it is just way too big in size and grinding volumes are large (20 cups at a time) which is not practical and efficient for me as I prefer to grind my flour right before baking. Grinding large amounts of flour and then letting it sit diminishes it's properties and makes it go rancid faster. It grinds alright, but my Vitamix does a better job in my opinion. I compared the results from both machines and Vitamix flour looks just a tad bit finer. The bran after milling with Vitamix is definitely finer than from NutriMill.

I love that this machine can mill legumes as well and if it were let's say 5 cups size I'd keep it. Having a 20 cup machine to grind only 2-3 cups at a time is not practical at all. If you have Vitamix, just buy a dry container. It does a great job with grain and can mill steel cut oats or rolled oats for flour unlike NutriMill.
Love my NutriMill!

I have recently started grinding my own wheat (as everyone should!) and so, of course, I needed a mill. I love this one! While I don't necessarily have anything to compare it to since I've never used anything else, I'll say that this one works well and works fast. It makes great flour and I've had no problems at all thus far. It is a bit noisy, but that doesn't bother me as I think it is to be expected. I recommend having a pastry brush dedicated just to your mill to use to get the flour off the lid and cup that's on the inside as the flour gets all over it and you'll want to brush it off. Otherwise, there's really no need to clean it at all. You also need to be aware that it can be a little tough to twist off the top of the canister at first because the seal is so tight. However, once you mill your first round of wheat, dust some of that flour over the seal and it makes it easier to get on and off. Overall, this is a great mill to have at home and I highly recommend it.
A good mill, but I personalized it.

This seems to be a very good grain mill, as long as the customer understands that it grinds FLOUR, but will not make cracked wheat, such as for cereal. When assembling, be sure to follow ALL the printed directions. If you do, it will not leak any dust. If you don't, you'll probably have a dust storm. Assembling the machine is a little tricky because parts fit VERY tightly together and MUST snap into position. The part I find the hardest is pushing the bowl (that receives the flour from the mill) in as far as where "YES" is seen. This is mandatory. I have to give mine quite a blow, not just a gentle slide. The machine does not have an off-on switch independent of the two black knobs on the front, so I had an electrician install an outlet right behind the machine that has a place for the machine's plug AND a toggle switch. When I'm not using the machine, I turn off the electricity to this outlet with the toggle switch. I have had a grain mill since 1980 (Grind-All) and have worn it out.)
Works great!!

This grinder works great. I make bread twice a week. I just milled my first wheat and I will make bread tomorrow morning. I love the fact that the flour will have all the health benefits that nature intended. Just remember, the flour will include the germ and the husk, so, it will have a courser than normal feel. I can't wait to see how well it turns into bread. Digestive tract, get ready for some easy work! :)
I like this product for the quality of fine

I like this product for the quality of fine, medium or coarse flour it produces and not so much for the process. I do not believe it in "5 cups in 5 minute" for all grains. If the grain size is large (like kidney beans) it takes a really long time compared to lets say millets (which take ~5 minutes). Its also very noisy. My infant gets scared with the noise of this machine and hence I operate it when she is not around. The lid which closes the bottom "flour collecting" box is very hard to slide and take out and also put it back. I wish the manufacturer had taken care of some technique to accommodate larger grains as easily as smaller ones along with an easy lid. However, I reiterate the final quality of flour is really good.
